This! App at Home, Charlotte 2-1 type series so we can recruit that area a bit easier, and ODU H&H since that's a great recruiting area ESP for us.

Sorry, but I have absolutely no desire to see ECU play either App or Uncc. ECU has spent years striving (and effectively succeeding) in separating ourselves from these schools. I just don't see the upside in scheduling them. If ECU were as firmly established as our ACC neighbors, I could better support the relationship. Until that time, I just can't. But that's my personal opinion, and I do understand other's dissenting points of view.

App would only be when we need to fill a scheduling hole. Charlotte is because we get a lot of kids from the western part of the state and our BOA games don't appear to be a constant thing anymore.

I'd like to see the Pirates eliminate all FCS games and play, Sun or CUSA instead. I'd love for us to play ASU home and away, but that is because I pull for them too. I don't see any benefit in going to Boone but would think ASU would benefit from playing in Greenville as that would help their recruiting in Eastern NC. Home and Home with Charlotte makes sense because that is such a fertile recruiting area.

NCSU has already played at ODU and VT is going there (twice), so it's not unprecedented.
I agree but damn, he hasn't scheduled a P5 opponent since he's been here.

Tell that to Virginia Tech who has a 7 game series with ODU - the only extra game in Blacksburg coming before they expand the stadium.

You're simply off base here.

EDIT: I'll add that our "leg up" in negotiations is that we get to choose who we want to have H&H's with, because essentially any G5 school in east of the Mississippi would absolutely love play us, and many on the west coast may too. That's our leg up. Our leg up at this point, alongside every AAC, MWC, and many P5 schools, is NOT that we get to go 2 for 1 with CUSA schools because we have bigger facilities. That isn't how it works.

NB Pirate is right. 2 for 1. If they won't do it then find another school who will. The reason VT is playing ODU is because that is their primary recruiting ground. They have different motivation than ECU.

Why are ppl so hard up to play ODU (and Marshall for that matter)?? Wouldnt you rather have a 7th home game most years than an away game at a CUSA school? I don't care who it's against, FCS included, an extra home game is better.

And remind me again why it is so awesome to play ODU in Norfolk? We will still recruit the area and get players whether we play ODU or not.

We should try to get 7 home games whenever we can. We don't owe ODU or Marshall anything. We paid our dues for 30 years playing anyone and everyone away so we could get to the position we are in. ODU just started D1 play- let them be road warriors like we were and then we can talk home and home down the road.

There are plenty of other schools we can play ppl.

Doesn't really matter what you think, this is the reality. Get used to it.

VT's motivation is no different, State's motivation is no different. 10% of our team right now is from Tidewater. We have over 5k alumni in the area. Kids like to play at home, Fans like to see their team close to home, Scouts can take trips in the area, you always try to play where you recruit. And it's smart, in our case, to play where our alumni are.

Why so much love for ODU? Maybe you have some personal connection with ODU but I just don't see why it's so important for us to have a home and home w them. We already have 10% of our team wo playing up there, ever.

I wouldn't get too used to it. One home and home doesn't a series make. If we play ODU once in a decade so be it. As I stated, there are bigger fish to fry out there and we need home games, not away games versus CUSA.

there are plenty of alumni in Charlotte too but I don't think we should play home and home with UNCC either. we can agree to disagree here.

I have no personal connection with them at all, but see the value in the series - especially when everyone around you is doing it. Don't you realize that a schools like NC State, UNC, and VT (who all have inked H&Hs or more with them) have caught on to the recruits that they've lost to us in the area? There is absolute value to this series in that regard.

And guess what? We will get plenty of home games vs. CUSA, but we'll be playing away games to go along with them. ECU has never played, and likely will never play, a home buy game v. an FBS school. ACC schools in the region do not even have that luxury - not even UNC, who has a H&H with both ODU and UNCC.

If you can't look around comparatively and find your approach to this to be unrealistic, then you will continue to get your panties in a wad as we continue to schedule H&H series like everyone else. Oh, but we're so much better right?

Ok PirateMonarch. Just bc NCSU does it and UNc does it then by God we have to do it! Who cares what they do? NC State just did a home and home with South Alabama so I'm guessing you are a fan of that for ECU too. I personally can't wait for that matchup.

No ones panties are in a wad but yours bc of your zest for ODU. ECU will not play a long term series with ODU home and home. The majority of our fans don't want it. One or two games here and there is no big deal and is enough to keep our recruiting presence in the area.

That's just proof that we aren't going to be able to walk around getting 2 for 1 deals with CUSA teams at our will. I really don't care whether or not we play ODU, I honestly didn't even remember that their mascot was the Monarch until a google search - which by the way I think is a horrific name. I've just always known them as ODU with the bulldog wearing a crown. Anyway, the point is that

1. If we're going to schedule FBS teams OOC, we're going to have to go to them as well for the most part (not all the time). The combination of us never having done an FBS buy game, and P5 teams having to do H&Hs with G5 schools doesn't show whether or not we should do it, it shows that we have no choice.

2. I don't think ODU is a bad series under the circumstances. It's not my favorite, but I also don't mind it based on the other games we're playing. UNC and NC State scheduling H&Hs there clearly shows that they too are trying to get into a very fertile recruiting ground that they haven't taken as much advantage of recently (since Doeren and Fedora). We need to keep our claim in an area that we could very easily lose if we aren't careful (we really only shared it as a primary ground with VT). That area is very, very important to Ruffin's recruiting. We can't keep it by not playing there when VT, NCSU, and UNC (direct competitors) are. That's the point, it has nothing to do with us copying what State does - really? Also, it'll be nice for the thousands of alumni there (more than we have in Charlotte, BTW), to be able to have a Pirate game near where they live.

So get your panties out of a wad.

Good series.

That program should be pretty damn competitive by 2018.

RE: ECU adds H&H with ODU to future schedules...
It really comes down to if you want 2 or 3 p5 games and if you want an FCS on the schedule. Cause the only other option is G5. ECU has done a great job getting P5s to meet them on equal terms as far as scheduling. But if you want games that are a higher win percentage then you've got to play other G5s and maybe an FCS. Nobody's going to agree to a 2 for one with you maybe H&h plus a BofA game with App. And App St would cost you at least twice as much as in the past to buy that game. Probably more if they'd even agree to it. Vandy payed us a Million to play there last year. I'm not sure about NCST but there's better options than ECU just like there's probably better options for ECU for H&H's. Just a matter of what you want. A two hour drive away game is practically a home game for both fan bases. But the Norfolk game will still be a tough ticket to get even with the expanded stadium

We don't need G5 for win percentage. We've won our last 5 ACC games.
