I give the slight edge to NIU only because they are the more experienced and tested team. A very slight edge.

NIU's defensive line shuts down CMU's (below average) running game and puts pressure on Pooper... he has a pedestrian day. On the flip side, NIU offense is tough sledding. Running game struggles and they have to rely on Hare. Critical CMU turnover late in the game seals the deal for NIU.

All the MAC games are on at 3/3:30 Saturday...this is THE game for Bronco fans to watch though. I can't even predict. I want to predict NIU, but if I do that, CMU will do their beat-NIU-thing.

I agree that this will be a low scoring game - first team to 20 is likely to win (and the winner may not even reach 20). CMU has knocked off NIU often enough in recent years that there's no chance NIU looks past them. Both teams have good defenses - NIU's was especially impressive at OSU. I'll say:

CMU 16

It wouldn't surprise me one bit, though, if CMU wins.

Nothing would shock me, really. I see NIU's D keeping CMU in check. CMU's turnovers costing them the game, but NIU having a couple Good drives to make the win happen:

But I can also see CMU not having any turnovers, pumped up about the game, and NIU being vulnerable to CMU like WMU is:

it is too early to see the implications of the benefits for one team to win versus the other. BGSU and Toledo are the early favorites...it will fun to see if those teams stumble.

I can't even make a prediction. Too close to call. NIU has always had trouble in Mt. Pee, but I think they're also the more experienced and more talented team. If they contain Rush, it's game over.

I will for sure be watching this one on Saturday. A lot of MAC West implications early in the season.

The Huskies have more speed and athleticism and a superior offensive system. CMU will play well for a half, then fold.

It is Homecoming, but CMU alumni no longer care.

You may be right. The Close Toasties moral victories rarely mean much. I can take just as much from their Monmoth game as their MSU game.

I heard Dantonio today. "There's A different vibe in the locker room when conference play starts." I believe that is true for every team.

As for the CMU/NIU game -- I think both teams are like heffers walking out of the bar. Hungry "for their Kermy".

CMU's home field advantage is key. Their lack of CMU's running game is key for NIU, to take their already strong pass D to ensure that they can shut down the Pooper. However, CMU is going to be prepared for this, and they do have a good D -- so if NIU does Not get their offense going at least in an OK-fashion, they will lose. Simple as that.
