This gives great insight into what is on the CUSA agenda. Selig also says he is backing a move to reduce CUSA basketball schedules from 18 to 16 games.

My opinion is if you aren't bringing back football...and we aren't going to keep your non-football sports, you should be out before basketball season. Not that you are guaranteed the top seed or that I ever said the top seed should host. I don't think a team leaving the conference should have any shot at our autobid..much less get to host.

Well considering UAB is a charter member and La Tech is a newbie, as long as we're in CUSA UAB will be afforded the opportunity to host the tourney again and get the autobid.

This is not relevant at all. Once you're a full member, you're a full member.

If the conference doesn't have a rule against lame-duck members hosting tournaments, they ought to at least consider one. And even without a rule like that, I can't see why the other AD's would stand for it in a situation where we know before the bidding process that a school is leaving (I can see how it would happen in other cases, like last season when it wasn't official that the school planned to violate the conference by-laws and give up their membership - although I'm sure the president knew at that time).

I am glad Woody (Skippy) is the voice of CUSA....Is he the CUSA majority leader or something? He is always speaking out about something like he owns CUSA...

Wood is great with the local media. He does weekly spots on the local ESPN radio station and seems to give any information to Harry Minium, our beat writer, he can. This is the reason Harry usually breaks CUSA news. I love that our admin is open with any potential news. It is certainly better than the alternative.

Has CUSA officials said South Alabama is a possible replacement for UAB? Has any CUSA school AD or president said USA or any other school for that matter is a possible replacement for UAB? Has an offical list of replacements for UAB been furnished by Banowsky?

Personally, I have nothing against South Alabama. Hell, my niece currently attends the university. I would trade Mobile for Birmingham but I wouldn't complain about living in Mobile either.

not in public but the answer to your first 2 question is

yes and there is a list if it comes to that

If UAB is given 1 year to move their programs from CUSA I expect to see a replacement by July and if it's anyone other than USA I will be surprised. Unless the TV numbers comes in favorably for GST. I don't have that info from any of the people (president/ad) you mention but from a person that could get it and should know anything that concerns Western.
THe only people really mentioning South are the 2 or 3 constantly pimping them here. It will be very hard for anyone other than UL to get added right now given the number of solid votes they already have.

There is not a single school available that has the ability to move a tv number. If gsu and usa could then the belt would already be getting more tv money than cusa.

At this point, nobody knows how many "solid votes" anybody has. USA is as likely as anyone to replace UAB.

Also, much of what you have seen on here lately has been his responses to questions at the various Coaches Caravan meetings.

From what I've gathered Birmingham, New Orleans, Shreveport-Bossier, and Norfolk....maybe more we don't know about. I would think El Paso.

I would enjoy New Orleans or Norfolk. All of these places, save Shreveport, sound attractive to me.

All I know is Wood was quoted in this media as saying Western doesn't fit the type of school CUSA was looking for...about 3 to 5 weeks before Western got the invite.

Not only that but to anyone that should know what's going on in CUSA...Western was with in 2 weeks of getting the invite that went to FAU. So I think Wood speaks out a lot of times without the information he should know.

We've certainly seen a couple of instances of diarrhea of the mouth from AD Selig, particularly during the hiring process of our current MBB head coach.

But, to his credit, that problem does not appear to have flared up anytime recently.

I was talking with him last spring as we both walked toward the baseball stadium. On the street behind us a car sped by. We both heard the car and turned around. Selig yelled at the driver to slow down. I though, "now that's an engaged AD who's looking out for campus safety." He looked at me and said, "My son. He just got his license."
