IMO, Josh is not fighting to stay, he is fighting to get a better landing spot. Think Parrish is putting some firendly spin on this, so a) Josh doesn't look so desperate and b) recruiting. Again, if he has a bad year, he goes by the admins action, if he has a good year, he goes by his action. The one constant is he is going.

I think this post by Sundanceuiuc sums it up nicely:

The embarrassing blowout losses and dysfunction are what stick in most folks craw.

The way I see it ...

If we sneak in and get railroaded - he gone.
If we sneak in and compete or upset - 1 more year
If we get in @ a 6-9 seed and win a game - 1 more year
If we get in 6-9 seed and get railroaded/upset - he gone
NIT - he gone

Where's the "No NIT" option?

I thought he didn't have an agent?

Agency in terms of Pastner has choices that he controls all by himself.

He also thinks that those who say that next year is Pastner's last chance if he doesn't make the Sweet Sixteen are mistaken and that Pastner has at least two more years here.

If that were the case with Josh, and I don't think it is at all, this program would be in deep, deep trouble. Trouble that would take years to recover from.
That would be throwing the program away, literally.

ZERO teams will be coming for Pastner. Nobody is going to be willing to pay that much with his salary and buyout for someone who is unproven.

But some other schools might be willing to pay a large part of his salary which would make the buyout much more possible. While driving through AL yesterday, I heard several callers to a Birmingham sports radio show advocating for JP if they don't get Marshall. Not that it means anything but not everyone sees JP through Memphis fans' eyes.
