Bleacher Report Coaching Carousel-->CJP
Bleacherreport.com addressed ASU and Pastner:
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/24142...-high-gear

"....it seems as if the Sun Devils need a high-energy coach who thrives both in the public eye and in the living rooms of high school prospects.

No one matches that description as well as Pastner.

The man who took over for John Calipari at Memphis at age 31 is regarded as one of the top recruiters in all of college basketball. He knows the region as well as anyone, having played at Arizona before serving on the Wildcats' staff. And his engaging, upbeat personality would certainly rekindle some excitement among the fanbase. Pastner has made tremendous on-court strides in his first six years as a head coach. Arizona State is a much better fit for him than Memphis.

Apparently folks in Tempe don't share my opinion, as Pastner isn't believed to have been contacted by Arizona State officials. At least not yet."

Interesting article overall.

Anyone got a link to their fans discussing such on an ASU forum?

I have scoured the internet. They simply don't have an active basketball forum by our standards. There is one with a coaching search thread, but its a ghost town from what I have seen.

The student body at ASU is probably unaware they have a basketball team. Pastner isn't going to take that big of step down voluntarily.

Parrish said this morning while on with Calkins that he thinks Capel will be the next coach at ASU. He also thinks that those who say that next year is Pastner's last chance if he doesn't make the Sweet Sixteen are mistaken and that Pastner has at least two more years here.

What you read on this board always has a little bit of truth to it. For example, there really is a University of Memphis.

If that were the case with Josh, and I don't think it is at all, this program would be in deep, deep trouble. Trouble that would take years to recover from.
That would be throwing the program away, literally.

Then it will be a huge hole for the next coach to dig out of. If we can get a B12 invite, that will help. If we don't, talk about a mountain to climb. I cant even fathom the fan apathy and damage done if Pastner stays here for 2 more seasons.

At least the new guy will start at lowered expectations.

Maybe that is the goal.

A lot of people here in Phoenix thought Josh was the guy. All but the AD apparently.
It does look like it's Capel's to turn down.

He said that none of the people who had the capability of buying out Coach Pastner had the desire to buy him out. He also said that Bill Laurie loves Josh. Don't know if a bit of this is true but that is what he said.

RE: Bleacher Report Coaching Carousel-->CJP
Josh has to have a BETTER year, not THE BEST year of his career.

The way I see it ...

If we sneak in and get railroaded - he gone.
If we sneak in and compete or upset - 1 more year
If we get in @ a 6-9 seed and win a game - 1 more year
If we get in 6-9 seed and get railroaded/upset - he gone
NIT - he gone

Do not discount Pastner's agency in all of this. If he has a good year, he will have OTHER opportunities, he will take them. IMO, Josh is not fighting to stay, he is fighting to get a better landing spot. Think Parrish is putting some firendly spin on this, so a) Josh doesn't look so desperate and b) recruiting. Again, if he has a bad year, he goes by the admins action, if he has a good year, he goes by his action. The one constant is he is going.

I thought he didn't have an agent?
