Not sure why Texas would let him slip to Bama though. Bama gets a shot at him only if Texas isn't interested or if they somehow brick on the negotiations.

True - but we have matching payscale for most of DI basketball schools, a better recruiting area, better facilities, better history/tradition, and a pretty good ESPN contract, so exposure isn't a worry.

I never said Marshall would come here.

I'm just not going to declare the Alabama basketball job better than Memphis basketball job purely on conference affiliation.

If the SEC is all that, why did Frank Haith leave Missouri for Tulsa? Oh, he was on the hot seat. Okay, why'd James Franklin leave the SEC for the Big 10, why'd Urban Meyer?

Why couldn't Tennessee hire anyone better than Donnie Tyndall?

Being in the SEC, they should've been able to throw money around last offseason and hire whoever, right?

I would think both Alabama ($EC cash, exposure, ESPN backing) and Memphis (Fed Ex $, exposure, history, natural recruiting bed) would have little issue making a good hire.

It's entirely possible an elite coach might prefer either one based on their preferences for lifestyle, player type, region to live in, how well they handle expectations, etc.

If you laid out Alabama, Texas, Arizona St, and Memphis, there are elite coaches who would order them differently and it is entirely possible some coaches would rank us first and others last.

Personal preference matters. I would not want to move to Alabama if Memphis, Austin (!), or Arizona were options. I like cities (Memphis/Austin) and love deserts (Zona). Alabama? I'd rather coach at LIU Brooklyn.

But that's me, all the people involved would be different.
