MyBB What top assistant will take the job for only 1 season?
The way everyone here talks, it almost seems like a foregone conclusion that Pastner has 1 year left to turn things around and have success, including winning a couple games in the tourney, or he is gone. Everyone also seems to agree that the key to this happening is to get some high level assistants on the bench, including a really experienced Xs & Os guy, and for Pastner to actually allow these coaches to help him succeed.

My question is this... Knowing that Pastner is on the hot seat this year, and that it is most likely his final year at Memphis, what truly high level coach would sign on knowing that they would only have a job here for 1 season? I know coaches move around a lot, but really who wants to uproot their whole lives knowing that it is probably only for 1 year and that after that they will also be looking for a new job in a new place yet again? Also, most hot assistants are looking to move up to bigger programs and eventually to head coaching jobs. Would signing with Memphis in its current state of coaching limbo really help a great assistant coach move up in the ranks?

One that hopes he will get the inside track on being the next Memphis Coach of Pastner is fired.

Yep Same situation with players...

Recruiting for 2016 probably will be really quiet for a while.

I have the same suggestion I had when Cal left. Bobby Knight.

I sent a note to RC Johnson before Pastner was hired. My suggestion at that time was to bring in Knight as head coach for a set 3-year deal, with Pastner as the "coach-in-waiting". Of course, RC went ahead and hired Pastner and the rest is history.

At this point, I would hire Bobby Knight as a "consultant" to get the program going. His ego is good enough that he would not be put off by public opinion or rumors. He has a wealth of knowledge. Who knows? Maybe a year or two of polishing with Knight on the bench could bring Pastner to a higher level of bench coaching.

I think it would be worth a phone call.

...

I honestly believe his job is safe as long as he makes the tournament next year.

As long as his son isn't part of the deal, I'd take a chance.

I don't know what Josh will do.

I will say this - there are a lot of ex head coaches out there right now.
