Also some rumblings about a potential return by Melvin Watkins (coached Charlotte in 98 and 99 I believe), but Will Wade has been mentioned twice now. Once by Gary Parrish and once by our beat writer.

Wy would you want Anthony Grant? I know Alabama is tough place to win, but his resume is not that great besides a year or two at VCU...Shaka Smart proves you can win even bigger at VCU, which Grant did not...

I think Wade would be an excellent hire, someone young with something to prove that has already had success at a smaller school.....

Trust me, Grant is a very good coach, he is just not willing to live in the gray areas, or outright cheat, to get the recruits needed to consistently win in a P5 conference. I think he'd be a great fit at Charlotte.

I was hoping for something a little more exciting for the casual fan, but at the same time he has a lot of the attributes our fans have been clamoring for for a while.

Head coaching experience.
Personality.
Community focused.
Exciting system.

One thing that I don't like though is that he was talking to us 2 months before the season was over with a team contending for the SoCon title. Not a classy thing to do IMO.

97-98 after being a player (74-77) and then assistant coach here from early 80s through 96.......not going to be Watkins though.

If he was approached, I can't blame him for discussing something that will improve his career.

Seriously doubt we'll target Grant, but our offer will probably depend largely on where we pull from. Imagine we can afford to pay up to 750k if we really needed to for the right coach. I anticipate seeing an offer in the 500-600 range.

Plenty of good coaches at that price. I like the Manhattan dude.

I'm glad you guys went your separate ways. I know CUSA went after you guys, not only for the market, but also because of your basketball. Please get it together. CUSA needs WKU and Charlotte to "bring it" in basketball. You guys are the missing link in basketball.

Well he ain't getting anywhere near $1M wherever he lands next. He could go assistant to a P5 coach or head mid-major, but he'll be lucky to land much more than $500k either way.

I like Andy Toole at Robert Morris. He was in the running for the ODU job. Don't be surprised if that name comes up.

I like Steve Prohm, Bobby Hurley, Brad Underwood, and this Wade guy is interesting (and appears to be the frontrunner). My first three chocies are probably headed to cartel programs. Mike Young at Wofford is another possibility.

Another coach I like is Eric Musselman, who is currently an assistant at LSU. Has been a head coach at every level, including the pros. But he has been connected to the San Diego job.

Is this still the consensus? Went to check NN.N but the site is down.

Not sure what issue is with the site, some folks can access while others can't. I've heard Wade and Watkins and Parrish also mentioned Moton. Observer stated Wade will interview later in the week.

Is Wade interested? He just finished his 2nd year at UTC and braings back almost the entire team next season. Would seem like an odd time to cut and run for not that big of a bump.

Nevermind, I guess so. I think you can do better. Kind of rolling the dice on experience.

Would Charlotte ever consider Bobby Lutz again? He had some great teams when he was there.
