Anyway, the decision makers in CUSA and SBC know where LU is, so we are good to go. Ha. But I'd love to see us play Uzbekistan......just at home.

What state is Georgia Southern in?

Waiting for our invitation to join the USC (United Soviet Conference). Can't wait to say "Dos Vadanya" to this dump of a conference and join some real comrades.

Is Kazakhstan in that conference? They have a great national anthem.

Yes which now makes it the greatest conference in the world.

All other conferences are run by little girls.

Let me preface this by saying it's not a knock on any team.

But when I say Georgia Southern, Arkansas State, USA... Folks go "who?" They recognize by the name the state you are in, but that's it. (I have ZERO doubt that the same happens when y'all say Texas State... Maybe a movie joke is thrown in).

When I say App State, some folks go "who" and some folks say "oh that team that beat Michigan way back in the day!" (those are the older folks). I have no idea why the Florida win by Georgia Southern 2 years ago doesn't register as high, but that's what it is.

The beauty with App, Georgia Southern, and stAte is you can talk about the numerous football accolades they have accomplished. With Liberty, the first thing out of most folks' mouths is "you know, that school founded by Jerry Falwell." And that's when things go south. Liberty's recognition is the negative kind.

I don't take that as a knock at all, you also have to look at that regionally though. You are in Texas. Not near as many people will be as familiar with app and southern as people out here would be with TXST. But I'm saying, even in this region, nobody outside of that state knows who they are.

And I totally agree on being able to at least name some accolades with teams that we mention.

As I have said a thousand times on here, perception is everything when it comes to what people think of your conference.

The overall season records for Michigan vs Florida may be part of the difference. Michigan ended the season with a 9-4 overall record and a top 20 national ranking the year of Appalachian State's win. The game was also the first game of the season against a #5 ranked Michigan team. For Georgia Southern, Florida ended their season at 4-8 in 2013. The Georgia Southern game was also the next to the last game of the season and followed five consecutive Gator losses.

In addition to a lot of water under the bridge, Georgia Southern's results might be similar to Lamar's 1981 win against Baylor in Waco. Baylor was the defending Southwest Conference champion coming off of a 10-2 record and a #6 national ranking. The problem is that Baylor ended their season at 5-6 in 1981. Older Lamar fans and older Baylor fans remember that game, but admittedly, that's probably about it.
