To all you people about to flame the refs, let me save you the bandwidth. When your only offense is passing the ball around and jacking up a bad shot, you don't draw fouls. Also, when your pgs commit terrible fouls it isn't the refs fault. It's the same thing over and over. Even when our guys give winning effort, they aren't coached well enough to win. Either Josh needs to get so much talent that he can't screw it up or we need a new coach. Those are the options for this program to get better.

Our guys put up a valiant effort tonight. We just didn't have the manpower to stay with SMU after Crawford went down and Johnson fouled out. Wasn't our night.

Nothing to say about the 4 obvious travelling violations that cost us baskets? Nothing at all about Godfrey taking two charges that aren't called? So sad when our fans hate Pastner so much that they defend crappy refereeing.

That's right. Our "fans" defend the refs when they screw us.

SMU is visibly much more athletic than we are.

Stammers has a valid point. The officiating was not good. Memphis had some guys not show up on a night when SMU could have been beaten and it might not have mattered but the officiating was terrible. Reminds of me the crew last night doing the Griz.

The officiating was bad on both ends of the court. It's not like the refs had an anti-Memphis agenda.

RE: Refs
Our players deserve better when they play hard enough to win games. Not getting any help from the bench. Cunningham drives to the basket, looks to kick it out to the corner and no one is there. SMU did that several times, leading to wide open shots. You could just see how much better coached SMU was than our guys. I get that Larry is a HOFer i find myself yelling the same things at the tv that I did when Josh was starting out. He's not getting any better so the talent needs to. Either that or he has to go whenever it makes sense to let him go. I don't know how anyone could think otherwise at this point.

RE: Refs
These refs sucked, if Shaq had set that screen it would have been a foul. Brown's legendary rep follows him around. Josh should have stood up for his players strewn all over the floor

RE: Refs
I have never complained about refs when we are the home team. Refs are obviously biased ESPECIALLY in the regular season towards the home team. The consequences of a ref having 'home cooking' bias for a regular season game are virtually nothing. A 'suspension' by a league (remember a few years back when that 'ACC' ref was 'suspendedn') means nothing since a suspended ref can simply ref another game (and with 337 or so teams, it's pretty easy to find a NCAA Div. 1 game to referee during the regular season game). Throw in the fact that the overwhelming majority of college refs do it as a PART TIME job, it's not at all surprising that the home team will get the benefit of the doubt.

That's why neutral site game - especially tourney games - are probably better officiated.

On the other hand, I have witnessed some awful refs when the Tigers are on the road. The UC game played in Freedom Hall during the C-USA tourney in which Huggy got a technical and the refs proceeded to virtually gift wrap the game and send UC to the C-USA tourney final to avoid having an empty Freedom Hall embarass the conference is one of the worst officiated games I have ever seen. About 10 years ago a game against ECU was shockingly bad as well.

I agree. They missed a few calls, but i had no problem with how the game was called tonight. Smu was the better team.

I'm still pissed about that louisville game in memphis in 2013, and one of our players was fouled right in front of pastner at the end of the game and they gave the ball to louisville, and all he did was clap.

Last year, we got hosed @ uconn, and pastner should have got t'ed up, ejected, or fined for making comments about officiating.

He did nothing but take it.

No they didn't.. The reason we foul so much is because they play D with their hands instead of moving their feet.. This has been the case for a few years now..
