Doesn't Army along with BYU have standing invites to the American?
Meaning anytime either school wants in its a done deal without asking questions.

That is the rumor. I would think we would need a legit #14 team to expand for Army without BYU. Not sure there are many good options available. Maybe 5-7 years someone like ODU will look appealing.

I wonder if Air Force could ever be pried away from the MWC and Army from Independence if both were invited to the AAC? I have no idea if any of the service academies truly value access to the New Years bowl games, as much as they do their service academy rivarlies, but having all 3 in the same conference would address both issues. Obviously AFA has comparable access to those bowl in the MWC, but when the AAC TV deal comes up in a few years it should blow the MWC out of the water. There is simply more TV appeal with the programs in the AAC and much better markets in large cities compared to a number of small college towns out on the range in MWC. With the exit of Utah and BYU, AFA's long standing rivaries in the MWC are down to Colorado St. and Wyoming. An annual OOC game with Colorado State could remain on the Falcons schedule, replacing former annual OOC games with Army and Navy. Playing earlier games and East coast travel could be a real issue for AFA, not that ESPN couldn't throw their east coast games on a bit later.
If the AAC is ever going to expand to 14, it must be programs with national appeal, that bring TV dollars, such as AFA and Army.
just my .02, a bit off the wall but a thought.

not off the wall at all. AF to AAC has been a topic of discussion on here for 2 years. Aresco tried his a$$ off to pry AF from the MWC.--I'll give him credit for trying very hard to get Army,Air Force, BYU,Boise,SDSU,Fresno and UNLV to the league. He tried and failed, but the good news is, ECU (and Tulane and Tulsa) got in because the above schools said no. I know a lot of fans would've prefered the 'MWC 5" over us Tulane and Tulsa but I think it worked out fine into a nice regional conference with some long time rivalries. Almost the original CUSA minus Louisville and plus UCONN, Navy and UCF to shore up the Atlantic coast. Its turned out very well for us in all sports and is going to be a monster in hoops in the future.

Had Aresco pulled off the Western Division deal adding AF, BYU, Boise, SDSU, Fresno, and one of UNLV/NewMex/ColSt and had we been able to sign a deal worth 10mil/year because of that, and had we been able to have a decent bowl for our winner, I would have been content in the AAC.
1. AAC
West: Air Force, Boise, BYU, SDSU, Fresno, Col.St, SMU, UH
East: UC, UCONN, UCF, ECU, USF, Temple, Navy, Memphis
2. 10mil/year
3. Decent bowl for winner
I would have been good with this.

So many people bring up the Army standing offer. Can anyone here substantiate this claim? I'm not buying it.

Access bowl for the winner would have been my first choice but it seemed to far a stretch. Heck people were griping annually at the Big Easts BCS (access) Bowl for our winner. But yes, Access bowl for the winner would have been even better..
I would be just fine with this. In fact we could add two more, Tulsa and Tulane and that would be fine too as long as we were able to get 10mil/yr per team, and an access bowl slot for the winner.

RE: Navysports on the American Athletic Conference
One of the problems is we had to take who we could get, people want jumping for joy to come into our league. We are not luring teams from the Mountain West until we start getting 10 million a year per. Right now we have the next best TV contract.

I think it had more to do with the timing of the contract winding down and everyone jumping ship.

They should. Even Army fans use the AAC board.
The problem I see is that a majority part of users has Navy as a 2th team. I just remember of old salt posting around here as a 100% Navy fan, and this has a year more or less.
Only because we are too good for the Sun Belt, C-USA, and the MAC!
Seriously, I hang out here because the quality of the posters are top-notch and they tolerate my crap.

You don't have a troll agenda (unlike a good amount of non-AAC fans who post here) so we are glad to have you.

I never understood the appeal of trolling other conferences or teams. I guess the mindset of the trolls resembles that of a toddler. A desperate need for any kind of attention.
And thank you. Hopefully, UCONN and Army can sign a deal for a 1-1-1 series (West Point, Storrs, Yankee Stadium)
P.S: The proposed series makes too much sense. So it will never happen.

Agreed! The conference was wisely given a name which will accommodate such additional schools if/when opportunities present themselves.
Welcome to our new Navy posters - come back soon and bring more Middies. Very glad to have Navy in the AAC!

Mountain West schools are too far away to be feasible without big revenue to make it worthwhile, but, FWIW, 90% of the schools in the MAC, Sunbelt and C-USA would defect to the AAC in a New York minute.
