Didn't realize that. And sorry to hear it. Hope his treatments have had positive results.
This news is just hilarious. Just can't believe message board crap can turn into a lawsuit. Sad state of affairs in our county. That said, the folks involved should know better.

Anyone can sue anyone else. Sure, a judge might toss it and it may be totally frivolous, but I can still force you to appear in court and (likely) shell out money to hire a lawyer. That's what's going on here.
I don't see the lawsuit going anywhere and I certainly see this lawsuit blowing up in Ms Zeigler's face. Zeigler's reportedly dropped all advertising from Mlive because the company ran the lawsuit story. Love how companies pressure media groups over stories reported on public information.

To suggest it might be totally frivolous is far fetched I think.
Legal Dictionary. Law.com. n. oral defamation, in which someone tells one or more persons an untruth about another, which untruth will harm the reputation of the person defamed. Slander is a civil wrong (tort) and can be the basis for a lawsuit.
I'm not sure you can prove an untruth, however, I think the harm part is pretty clear. Either way, not so cut and dry.
Fortunately the US is unlike the UK in that we at least make lipservice toward free expression. In the US, the onus is on the affected party to prove injury, unlike the UK, where the onus is on the accused to prove they didn't injure. This Zeigler woman is not Sally Homemaker. She's a huge booster and matriarch to one of the region's most successful (and visible) family businesses. I simply don't see the lawsuit going anywhere, but then again, I'm not a lawyer.

So that makes him less of an assbag? Don't pull the sympathy card now.

Why is it disgusting? Apparently they were sitting on this story for MONTHS at the behest of the Zeiglers. I would have told them to shove it up their a55e5 and ran it. Public information is just that, don't want to look like a elitist, petty a-hole? Don't sue a bunch of Joe Blows posting on a message board that you're banging the football coach. You...should...be above that.

what is the need 10-3 to be a regular here? Game has been over for months. My opinion...wish all the media groups would get together and ban anyone or any group that played the "I'll take my advertising money away card"
I wish this story would go away. Desertbronco, Majorhoople, and Chipdip are not bad people in real life.
This is a message board, not real life. I can understand how some may feel like this is real life, when they are feeling attacked. However, a person needs to step back and realize that at the end of the day the people doing the attacking likely would not do the same in real life.
Looking back, it would be nice if everyone could have taken one large step backwards (perhaps a deep breathe) and moved past the issues. 2014 season is over, 2015 season is going to be fun (albeit extremely tough).
Right now we are in one of the more interesting transition seasons I have witnessed for basketball. I realize compared to some, I don't have the basketball resume. I have been to just about every home game since 2005. I get that this does not compare well to okgc, Chipdip, Dirty Ernie, etc...but once we get past the pissing matches, I think we all have similar goals and hopes...we want the best WMU possible.
I hope this is not viewed as a "happy talk" comment, but rather as one that hopes to move past this dumpster fire.
I have one legitimate question related to this topic:
What was the point a few months back of the posted statements of retraction about the rumor which had been spread?
Why did so many posters make those statements if the end result was ultimately going to be a lawsuit anyway? I wonder if somehow those statements were requested to get an admission of some sort of guilt which will be used against the individuals moving forward.
This whole thing, from the rumors, to the lawsuit is ridiculous. I do think it will be interesting to see how it plays out in court (if it actually gets there) as it could well set some sort of precedent for these type of forums.
Just curious what anyone knows or thinks about the retraction statements.

Very reasonable approach. The balance of basketball will indeed be interesting. Keep an eye on womens Bball as well. Then the NCAA, after which spring football is not far behind.
Having little viewpoint battles is part of the fun, but yeah, the dumpster fires can get tiresome. But, thankful to live in the USA freedom of speech is a big right in our country.

.....wmutkelaw trying to "stir up" friendly, peaceful commentary relating to WMU and Bronco sports. What’s wrong with you dude?
