Announced attendance
Yea the game was really boring!! Besides I have a mechanism that you can point to an object or objects and it does the counting for you.. I seriously couldn't sit there and count that high during a game and all that's going on without getting confused and miscount at some point!!

Announced attendance: 12,995.
BTW, why don't you get rid of the political sig and display it only in the political forum - it's not appropriate for a Tiger sports forum.
It's appropriate for his entire life apparently

Attendance is always down around Christmas holidays, no matter who is the coach. Especially with the cupcakes all teams play this time of year.

So, are we becoming one of those teams that just announce stuff and think if we announce it then it is true. It's a dangerous precedent to start.

High dollar seats going unused is a leading indicator. We should keep an eye on that.
Maybe some of those high dollar seats went unused because they went to Miami for the bowl game. The Bank of Bartlett Charter left Saturday morning
I have multiple season tix and I was at the bowl game on the Bank of Bartlett charter, and I saw a number of basketball season ticket holders also in Miami. It's also the holidays and people have things going on during the holiday season. I expect the crowds will pick up after the holidays and when conference play starts........Still riding the buzz of Tiger football. And what a wonderful ride it was.

One day...in the future....fans will be able to put their tix up for sale on magical websites when they're unable to attend which will allow others who may want to go to purchase said tix....all this would be done digitally too.....that's futuristic stuff but man that would be groovy....

The difference this year is that the "announced" attendance (seemingly the formula of season tix + walk ups) is way down. In years past during this time, even when butts in seats were a shade over 10K, the announced attendance always exceeded 15k or 16k.
By yesterday's announced, we know that the season tix sold must be in the high 12's...well below the 15k or 16k from year's past.

Attendance is way down. I only go to Christmas games because of school, but I usually fall into the overflow student section. This year I am getting to sit at the bottom of the Blue Crew area which might I add is terrible because there is a goal obscuring the view haha.

I don't know why this is "a thing" right now
I'd love a sellout everynight
But the players are learning each other and the fans are leanring the players and these things usually work themselves out!

They have always announced attendance as tickets sold, not butts in seats.
The main differences now are 1) a lot fewer season tix sold and 2) fewer people actually coming to games (both walk up and those who own tix).
As recently as four years ago, the FEF would announce 16,500 as the attendance and it looked like 15,000+ were there.
Two years ago, they would announce 16,000 and 12,000 looked to be there.
Now they announce 13,000 and 8,000 look to be there.

Very true. Nothing wrong with announcing attendance as tickets sold. That's common practice.
Your observation about the decrease is what people should be paying attention to. That's the disturbing trend that will only get worse next season if things hold to form.
People clamor about paying Josh's buyout if you don't like him. That's ridiculous. Fans will demonstrate their dissatisfaction through tickets and other revenue sources the ath dept is dependent on until a change is made.
When taken in the universal scope of impact on ath dept revenue, the buyout will be a bargain.

Do we know for positive that tickets sold is the announced? I know we've said that for years but with ticket scanners and such now days I have to wonder if it is actual tickets scanned.

The scanners are good for telling how many of the 13,000 tickets sold don't show up.

Well, judging by the announced and the number of ppl I see in the stands, there is no way the scanning is measuring that. No way more than 7/8K were at the ORU or Central games, yet the announced was 13K+.
Like I wrote earlier, even when the announced was always 16K+ (basically 2007-2012) there would be times one could tell there weren't more that 10K-12K in the building.

Someone did the math in a previous post, but my best guess is Memphis has lost about 1,500-2,000 season ticket holders this year.
I wouldn't be surprised if there were 1,000 fewer lower bowl tickets sold this year. At about $850 a ticket, that would be a loss of $850,000 in revenue (not even counting the donation to the TSF).
If another 750 tickets were not renewed in the upper deck, that would be an average ticket price of $175 (a mix of special terrace and regular terrace) for another $131,250.
That is close to about one million dollars in lost revenue (and more from lost TSF donations for the good seats).
If they are losing another 1,000 upper deckers a game (at $10 a ticket X 18 games) in walkup sales, that is another $180,000.
That is being on the lower end of that, too. But regardless, the University is going be come in between, $1.5 and $2.0 million less than last year in ticket revenues.
