Shocked it only took 4 posts for this to be stated. Lol

If I wasn't teaching class when this came out, I probably would have been quicker to say Marcus Cox > Elijah McGuire.

EDIT: I don't want to come off as a sore loser. Congrats to McGuire, he is definitely worthy of the award. He was a very important cog in ULL's offense. But, it seems that Cox was punished because App's offense was run first, but very balanced with the pass. Even more, when App passed, the receivers were getting open and Lamb was very effective in hitting his receivers, which meant Cox's receiving skills weren't needed as much. For example, last year, he caught 40+ passes and rushed for 1100+ yards. With that said, again, congratulations to McGuire. I look forward to seeing ULL and McGuire at the Rock next year.

Give McGuire some credit, I mean he got 36 rushing yards against an App State defense with 1 player on the 1st team.

(Sorry, I had to interject here.)

McGuire- 1,695 total yards (rushing, receiving, return)
Breida- 1,606 total yards (rushing, receiving, return)

McGuire- 16 TDs
Breida- 18 TDs

McGuire- 8.3 yards per play (rushing and receiving)
Breida- 8.8 yards per play (rushing and receiving)

Where's the separation?

(Sorry I had to inject with some stats)

I think McGuire is a more complete back and have said so before. I guess I should be glad we have an award that's not driven completely by stats.

BTW, what would his total yards be without return yards, and should return yards play into the Offensive PotY award?

McGuire had 116 yards on punt returns, 1186 rushing, and 414 receiving.

Not much difference... Not many people have him chances to return anything... It was only PR not KR...apparently enough coaches outside of mark hudspeth think highly enough of him. I think the things McGuire does out of the back field is what is so impressive... He literally would be one of the better WR's in the league if he were to move to wideout.

With App State brining back 19 of 22 on a very young team that ransacked the belt late in the year, you guys should be scary good for years to come.

Bonus: App St was ranked in the Top 25 in scoring offense.

Return yards shouldn't be factored into the discussion for OPOTY

And Cox got a measly 156 yards, but he had too many touches with 36.

I only have a slight issue with our CB Mims on 1st team over Mager; who will probably get some Senior Bowl type invites and be an UDFA for somebody....if not drafted. I know Mims had several INTs. That probably got him the edge in voter's minds.

And he is technically the backup RB, I guess the people selecting use their eyes instead of just stats. How about way fewer touches than breida... You left that one off of your list.

I thought UL's RB had almost the same number of touches (or more), but the point was still that even taken the number of touches into account Brieda still has better stats. Also, like he stated, the UL guy apparently had the OL in front of him to open holes.

Anyway, congrats to him and all the players receiving awards. 04-cheers

Next year we get to see who was the fluke and who can rebound.

An argument could easily be made for Cox, Breida or McGuire. I don't think any of the 3 teams would trade their guy for either of the other two either. Also, all these guys will be back next year so we can continue this discussion with a larger body of work. Congrats to all 3 for being recognized.

FIFY, you may be including the senior half back who is not one of the starting 22. Lamm at LT and Ross at DB are the lone seniors.

Good point - I forget how exhaustively annoying SoGa fans are.

They are the worst fanbase to ever post on this forum!

Looking forward to traveling to Boone with our new coaching staff to see what we can do. I've heard great things about your stadium.

I don't think so, could be mistaken but McGuire had games with 12 touches... Unless you count fair catch punts as touches.
