RE: The SBC sends a good message and a really bad one,,,,
Not surprisingly, I disagree with Jay. Though I do agree with the idea that the officials had absolutely no control of that game at all.
I also have my doubts whether or not Hudspeth would ever suspend a player for the season for one hit. Suspending Frankie Jackson would be the equivalent of suspending Elijah McGuire. You better have all your ducks in a row if you are going to pull such a stunt, because the coaches will get blamed if the season tanks because of the decision (Such is a fact of football.) Frankie Jackson is a 5th year senior on his 5th coach, if he says its unintentional, we have no reason not to believe him.
I don't disagree that Karl Benson isn't sending a great message here, but Karl Benson never had an idea how to send a message to begin with, and anyone who watched that game the other day had to completely understand there was never a chance in hades of him taking any serious action from that game. He doesn't have the stones to do it. It was always going to fall to the schools, and no school is going to A: come out publicly and say they think their own commissioner is wrong, B: Suspend their star player for an action that's not a blatantly obvious NCAA rule violation, or crime.

Yeah right. So you suspend McGuire for turning around and back pedaling, as he crosses the goaline? That's the same as what Frankie did? A kick blocker, who hesitates at the snap, waiting for our OL to get into position, then launches himself into his right knee. Yep, that sounds like the same despicable acts. And don't say what McGuire did justified what Frankie did. No way dude. If you ever played ball, you would not agree. What he tried to do and BTW couldn't, could have ended a young man's college and possibly a pro career.

Chief, I sincerely hope no one dives after one of your O Linemen's knees as a result of the stupid precedent set this week.
I dont think you'd be so quick to waive it off on something as disingenuous as a professed lack of intent.

Wait.
Frankie says it wasn't intentional and that makes it so? If that is the case, why did he not make that move on any of the other seven extra point attempts.
I've interviewed four different line coaches. They all said they've never seen anything like that and the only way a player on a PAT would dive at someone's knees is if they intended to hurt them.
I don't expect us to agree. But Frankie said it, I believe it and that settles it is a bit much, dontcha think?

I can pretty much guarantee you, you wouldn't hear near the complaining out of stAte fans.
Most of us probably wouldn't even notice it to be frank.

Well...those are pretty much Blake Anderson's exact words, and he hasn't done anything to make us call him a liar yet.
If Anderson believes it was intentional, he certainly isn't saying anything publicly.

You misunderstood me. I wasn't making any claim that McGuire should be suspended for back pedaling. What I claimed is that suspending Frankie Jackson for us would be like you guys suspending McGuire. He's our team leader, is widely and highly respected by our fan base and his teammates, and plays a position where there is no depth behind him.
If Anderson suspended Jackson for something that 99 percent of our fan base has labeled as an innocuous hit, he better sure as heck be prepared for extreme backlash, and we better sure as heck win out, because Anderson, not Jackson would take the blame in the end for it.

If you're going to ignore it, ignore it. Otherwise you betray your own comments.

Eh...99 percent of the time when a player comes up as injured, and his name isn't Gordon, McKissic, Knighten, or Lee, many sit there and try to remember when he got hurt.
Its a matter of what fans pay attention too. Case in point, you guys all saw the play and have talked about it for 8 days. No stAte fans would have even known what happened had it not been for that. The play itself had little impact on the game, so we didn't see it or watch it.

our refs were on the cusp of losing control of the GSU/USA game. Let GSU get away with some stuff while giving us a billion unsportsmanlike penalties eventually culminated in someone getting a punch to the face. this is a weaker year than usual for SBC officiating

Not because of how composed and dignified stAte fans are, but a lack of passion. I've seen the game day atmosphere in Jonesboro, and because of that...I'll agree with your post.
Also nice to see how Frankie was elevated from nobody status to a star player.

The byproduct of getting the SEC's sloppy seconds.

Well...when the whole play was first talked about, I assumed the officials had ejected the player involved. At which point they announced a number I had never heard of, and ESPN reported it as a player I had barely heard of.
It took a full day to figure out it was Frankie Jackson involved.
