NOT Basketball or Academics
Well, the reality is that because of academics, basketball and geography, Duke could get into the Big Ten or SEC in a heartbeat.
Expansion being all about football and TV sets did not work out swimmingly for the Old Big East. Football and fan support did nothing for ECU until the very last minute, and TV sets did not get BYU into the Big 12.
And stll they are gonna seat 50000 and play unc. The same suck big East football schools now suck in other conferences and none are even ranked. The old big East had one value, an aq bid. When it lost that it had nothing and is as its ild fball schools suck. The new big east is as relevant as the a10 this time of year
I'm not slamming ECU at all, I'm just pointing out that it wasn't/isn't as simple as "Football drives the bus." The new Big East is perfectly happy with how things worked out, we're watching the NFL until Halloween.

So using this logic, UCONN should see an invite from the Big 10 tomorrow. UCONN fans were told, more times than I can count, that "football drives the bus". I can safely point to the Dukies as proof that line of thinking is complete BS!!!
Duke is in North Carolina.
North Carolina: 3.8M cable households and growing rather quickly.
Connecticut: 1.1M cable households and not growing so much.
Look at what Rutgers and Maryland did for the Big Ten Network. And Rutgers has accomplished nothing of note on the field or the court since 1869 or so, (except for a women's Final Four, maybe more). Compare that to Duke basketball, and I'm pretty confident in saying that Duke could join either the SEC or Big Ten tomorrow.
Note that Kansas isn't in North Carolina either, and they were twisting in the wind when the PAC-16 was being designed.
I know its been beaten like a dead horse but Fairfield/New Haven counties which is at least 1/3 of Connecticut is counted in NYC viewership. Since its mostly New Yorkers and very close to NYC.

what the hell are uconn fans trying to argue here? Duke is way better academically, located in a state 3x the size, a more iconic BB program, and a stronger FB program. so with all due respect uconn fans thinking their situation is comparable to the blue devils is a joke.
but to top it all off (and the real reason duke is in while uconn is out) is because duke finds itself in a situation where fellow P5 schools are actively working WITH duke. uconn meanwhile has to deal with fellow P5 schools who view them as an unnecessary burden and not worth supporting for P5 membership.
