It was also actually "on tv".

I will admit. If we're going to play FCS...it should be a ranked FCS Team every time. the UAPB game last year drove me insane because we learned nothing from it. Gave us a false sense of security heading into a difficult stretch of games.
Montana State was good enough to expose some of our weaknesses, and we now have those on film to correct before Tennessee, while we didn't show the Vols anything too complex that they probably didn't already know from old films.

They went 2 for 18 on 3rd downs. Defense dominated.
One of their fans called us the fastest team they had faced in 30 years, and said we would easily put up 60 points on Eastern Washington. There is now an argument in place about whether or not we could beat EWU.

I think it depends, with a new coach and having to learn a new system, having a tougher opponent could be beneficial, but I really preferred playing Southern this year as opposed to a tougher team. All of our players are well ingrained in the system and it worked to get some experience down the bench and give some of the better guys just enough time to knock off the rust. We've got an advantage (as if we needed any) to pound LaTech next week as we haven't opened any of our playbook. If we play it right, we could be sitting pretty with a couple of aces in our hand going into Ole Miss.

Yes, but you guys have some big advantages. 1: You return your QB and both RB's. Also most of the line. essentially your entire offense has played together, there's no need to play a talented FCS squad because you guys should know what kind of team you have. You also play a weak CUSA team in Tech next. They pretty much are what you would see out of a decent FCS team.
We returned 3 offensive starters, and are breaking in a new QB. We need to see what our holes are so we have time to adjust. Also, we play Tennessee, Miami, and Utah State, three very good teams, the next three weeks. Its important for us to learn what we have, so we have a better idea of what we will be able to do against higher level competition.
Next year, we'll return literally the entire offense, so we'll play a more average FCS team in Missouri State instead. (Though they are improving)

You guys pretty much know what you've got. Main thing for this weekend was timing, communication, and not getting injured most likely. We had more of a need to get tested.

We played 12 true freshmen tonight, if we come out of the Tenn, Miami, Utah State string of games with the team mood intact could end up being a pretty good team.

There will be some growing pains, but very impressed with ASU's young players, and their teams athleticism really showed in the game.
Looking around the country a lot of FBS schools struggled against worse FCS teams, and ASU dominated more than the score indicated.
Very good start for the Anderson era, and hope your injured players recover before next week.
