Good job 49ers...enjoy any/all victories as none are guaranteed. Come on Monarchs support your conference mates when they are playing OOC.

No. It makes sense to compare the schedules from the perspective of program progress, not program length.

Yes, PROGRESS in the first 1+ years. Since that is how far along WE are and as of RIGHT NOW, we are right in line with where ODU was. Record a little worse, but tougher schedule through 1.1 years. Sold out attendance at both home fields.

I didn't want to go here, but Charlotte did have a FBS team on the schedule and they cancelled. 05-stirthepot I would not have been against adding a Temple, Idaho, Georgia St, etc to the schedule, but since we don't have the four years of FCS caliber players it would have made no sense to buy out multiple games and get money games in their place.

I think Charlotte has done a good job scheduling considering the circumstances, and games against people like The Citadel, JMU, Coastal Carolina, Charleston Southern, and Gardner Webb are exactly what we need this year. Games where we have to ask the opponent to keep the clock running are not.

Next year, we will have one more year of depth when we step up. It will still be extremely difficult, but we will have more bodies and seasoning. I am not happy with last night's performance, but at the end of the day we won 33-9 on the road at a place that had a record crowd. The start to the season was not a catastrophe by any measure.

Progress is not equivalent to program life span.

Read comprehension and all that.

Let's be honest, whoever has scheduled your games didn't exactly hit it out of the park. The intent of my first question was to focus on the lack of preparation this schedule provides for C-USA play next season. When I initially asked the question I didn't mention ODU. This is about y'all. Not sure why you are bringing ODU superior schedule into the mix.

Getting the **** kicked out of us this doesn't do anything to prep us for next year.

We don't have the players to compete with FBS right now and many of the guys that we'll be counting on to play next year aren't playing this year or they're walkons / early recruits of the program that probably won't see much if any time next year.

All scheduling guaranteed losses does for us this year is guarantee that fan interest wanes.

Okay. I think there is value in competing at least a couple times against the better competition. We can disagree on that point.

Good luck this year Niners.

Most of our games this year are return games from last year. Had we cancelled any FCS home and home to pick up a road game against an FBS then we'd have lost 2 games in 2 years including a valuable 1st season home game. We could have cancelled a home game against a DII or DIII program to add an FBS program road game, but again we'd have to sacrifice a home game.

oh the irony.......so, let me get this straight, we should have scheduled TOUGHER than someone like ODU did (even though our plans were essentially the same as ODU's were, when our first 2 schedules were put together?) Somehow, once we got the CUSA invite we were supposed to magically become strong enough with our FCS recruits to not get the hell beat out of us unmercilously by scheduling year 2 like ODU did in year 4. Also, our "progress" after 1.1 years should be measured against ODU's progress after 4 years simply because we are moving up to FBS faster than ODU did? Sure.......makes perfect sense. 01-wingedeagle

No, that's fair, you didn't bring ODU into the mix, I did. I then tried to explain why there are no FBS teams on this year's schedule and you argued that ODU played 5 in its transition year. My point has been that you simply cannot compare the two different paths for a program in its second year to a program that was forced to reschedule numerous games due to its transition. My snarky reading comprehension comment was because you seem to be ignoring what are the many legitimate reasons for this schedule to insinuate it was bad program preparation for next year and we should have scheduled better.

To be honest, we could have dropped games to perhaps find one or two FBS games, but I'm 99% certain that that would have meant dropping home games, which the school didn't want to do while still building the brand and maintaining the high level of support.

Well I wouldn't have said anything if the schedules were remotely close.

It's like a 6 foot ten year old and a 4 foot eight year old. The difference can't be attributed entirely to life span.

Well, then it's an imperfect scenario. That was my whole point from the start.

So is Fatalisk the ODU version of stilljonesing?

My favorite logical contradiction is that the win over campbell was an "upset", but Charlotte should be playing FBS schools.

Rock on.

I was worried when I saw that Charlotte had only double Cambell's score going into the half. Fortunately the 49ers increased the difference and got a win on the road.

Can I pull this thread back up Sat. If we beat NCCU 65-3?

Ummm...is your opinion still the same on whether NCCU is a worthy opponent for Charlotte, if we travel there in our second year of existence? They seem to be giving you a wee bit of trouble at home. 07-coffee3

Not NCCU, but your point is well-taken. Had Hampton a 2tds plus the whole second half, but never looked in synch.

Hoping the we were not showing too much in prep for NCSU next week, but will see.

Thrilled with the wins by UNCC, UAB, UTSA, MTSU, WKY, Marshall.....
