You play who you can when you don't have the benefit of a conference schedule. If you want home games, you play who you must.

We played 5 during our first transition year. Y'all will have played at least 5 non-D1 opponents before you play your first FBS opponent.

Because ODU lost the CAA schedule and had to scramble to find games. Of those five, were any in Norfolk? So, you're making it sound like ODU decided to get those games of its own volition rather than due to losing its schedule.

Charlotte is independent, contracted for home & home with most of these programs, which it has kept this season. It won't fully prepare this team for what is likely going to be a very, very tough year next season.

Wow! Relax. Apart from Smitty, all we were wondering is how Charlotte didn't buy out one stinking game and schedule a guarantee game or a home-and-home with a G5 school. The leaders had two years to get this done. And yes, ODU fans understand the difficulties of a transition. Scheduling is a nightmare, many of the best players will get redshirted during the transition and you're playing mostly FCS recruits when many expect FBS-quality play solely because of the transition. But hey, if you want to keep name calling, go ahead. It'll just make you look like the simpleton.

Why bother? We don't have FBS caliber players. Unless we played someone like NMSU, Georgia State, or Idaho, we'd have absolutely no chance at a victory against an FBS team with the current roster.

We're still young, have fewer than 85 scholarships, and have a lot of players redshirting. I think we have about 75 scholarship players right now, but most of the young guys are redshirting, so we are still going to be relying a bit on walkons for depth.

In our second year of football, we were better than this, and in our year one of transition to FBS, we were better than this. So use whatever euphemistic language (ha) that you want, you need to still prove that you are more ODU/UTSA than FakeGSU. It is that simple. You lose to Pembroke and NCCentral. CAMPBELL scares you. 'nuff said. Be prepared to be everyone's Homecoming game for a decade until you field a team that makes such games laughable.

And for the record, JMU fans all receive golden tampons when they enroll as freshmen. Washable, durable, and completely plausible as an denial explanation as to why, in 4 short years, that ODU has lapped them (on and off the field) while they floss with the putrid string hanging from their
swollen, smelly, and infected manginas. They are now irrelevant, as you will be, unless you up your game.

This is the best post in the history of best posts. Hahahahaha.

And i love watching ODU and Charlotte fans go at it. Its like watching 2 special olympians go at it over who is the fastest midget on the track team.

Serious question...

Are you 12?

Just looked at ODU's scheduleS. They played a MUCH weaker schedule in year 1 than we did and comparable in year 2 (ours is actually stronger than theirs, IMO). They also lost their first game of year 2 (at home) to a non-scholly Jacksonville team from the same league as Campbell. COGS

that was our third season. we played them on the road the season before and beat them. we lost 3 games that season and made the FCS play offs the season after that.

I don't see why Charlotte is really being held to a much different standard. Sure our move-up was accelerated, but it would be absolutely foolish for us to play a schedule full of FBS teams in year 2. We don't have nearly the talent or depth to compete with those schools and we'd lose every single game against FBS schools. I'd much rather come into the first season in CUSA with (hopefully) a reasonably good record behind us and fan interest than come in off a 3-9 type season with nobody giving a **** about the program. ODU was considerably better last year than we are this year and they lost every FBS game last year that they played, including an absolute drumming by a mediocre North Carolina squad.

We're going to get the **** kicked out of us next year. I'd rather not have back to back losing seasons in a row.

Lot's of question marks on this year's team, but I expect a nice haul of JUCOs (and we have some FBS transfers eligible next season), so I expect to see us be bigger, faster, and more mature next year.

QB is a huge question mark though and our current QB is not going to be the answer at the FBS level. This is why I think it is foolish of our staff to deny a 4* recruit that was one of the favorites to win the Tennessee starting job. We need talent at the QB position and we had an absolute steal fall into our lap, but instead we said "no thanks"

I'm going to have to agree with Niner Natl' here. Our situations aren't really comparable. We were able to rise to the top of FCS before transitioning to FBS. They're going from nothing to FBS before their first recruiting class are even seniors. I think their schedule is appropriate, you need to have some games that you'll win for both the teams confidence and the fans and some games that will challenge you (JMU, Coastal Carolina, etc.)

That said next year might be brutal for them but I doubt one or even two FBS games this year would change that. They're transitioning faster than probably is advisable and hopefully there won't be any long-term effects.

lol. Saw were GSU got that win the other night. So, there's that.

Seriously, not sure why folks are expecting Charlotte to be world beaters in only our second season. Smack talk coming from a fan of a team that got mercy ruled is kind of funny though. I hope both teams do well in the future. Pretty sure we are going to get the bejesus beat out of us next year, but so be it. It's all part of the process.

Not according to the official ODU Athletics website. Shows year 2 (of playing) was 2010 and Jacksonville as game 1 loss.

Jacksonville was the opening game of Year 2 AT HOME. You are correct. It was a horrible loss, and you guys did not lose to Campbell, but we did to Jacksonville.

All in fun, and best regards for a successful second season. The important thing is you guys woke up in the second half and took care of business.

QB is a big problem for us. I hope Barden is ready to start next year, but I suspect he won't be. Not many freshmen, (RS or not) are ready to start.

Yeah we're thinking of implementing our own autonomy and giving him a few more years of eligibility.

Heck, I'd surprised if the new stadium isn't named after him: The House that Heinicke Built.
