I played in my college days too. I'd park next to the green at 10 on a Friday night and play 11-17 and be back at my car.

Yep, a lot of people did the same thing. The clubhouse knew about it, just didn't really care. We would always pay for 9 and play 18.

RE: Mirimichi
They changed the public courses about 10 years ago. About the same time they changed the anme from Audubon to the Greens at Audubon or whatever they call it now. They used to have club pros that made money off the pro shop sales. They did away with all the pros which is why you hardly see anything for sale anymore. The ruined Galloway as well with the changes they made to it.

Yep, last time I went to Audubon it was an 18 year old girl with a number of facial piercings working the counter. I've played Galloway some lately, I think it's alright. They still have one of the best BLTs in Memphis.

Audubon is way too easy for high level college golfers. I play that course 10-15 strokes lower than I do at any course out here in Scottsdale, AZ. You need something more challenging to get some separation at the front of the pack with low handicap golfers.

What I heard Wolo say was that Timberlake has tried to sell it but can't get what he wants for it, so he is considering "donating" the course to the University.

That's what I thought he said as well.

I guess with the decrease in golf popularity, it is much tougher to make money on those things now.

Why would the University accept a donation of a money sapping proposition 18 miles from campus with no educational value?

I don't think golf is losing popularity ..... I just don't think people have time to play as much

Sounded logical, until I googled it:

Excerpt:

increasingly a victim of its own image and hidebound ways, golf has lost five million players in the last decade, according to the National Golf Foundation, with 20 percent of the existing 25 million golfers apt to quit in the next few years.

People under 35 have especially spurned the game, saying it takes too long to play, is too difficult to learn and has too many tiresome rules.

What I heard Wolo say was that Timberlake has tried to sell it but can't get what he wants for it, so he is considering "donating" the course to the University.

Why would the University accept a donation of a money sapping proposition 18 miles from campus with no educational value?

Millions of dollars for redevelopment of the course is already done and the income to recoup the redevelopment dollars could take years and Timberlake realizes that. To try to sell the course to recoup those dollars sooner than later isn't happening and thus the idea for a donation that causes a nice tax deduction.

With the redevelopment complete, the biggest expense is maintenance and that is what the University must decide; will anticipated income cover on-going maintenance and operations as well as having a university golf course, which many, many universities also have.

There could be educational value included in this donation, but that is another whole discussion. If this does come to pass, and it doesn't become an on-going "expense", I don't see a downside.

Why are you asking me? That was a quote from the article I linked. I don't even care.

I apologize if I offended you as I wasn't really asking you. It was more of a rhetorical question.

Really? I'm not trying to be a dick, but why?

It used to be about 210 from the blue tees, slanted green with traps on both sides. Don't be long.

6 iron for today's college player.
