Chase that beer with some nitrous oxide and a hit of jenkem and you'll understand USM's game plan.

there is nothing funnier than watching the beer vendors in the UTSA student section yelling "no ID, no problem".

UNT to sell beer at Apogee Stadium, beginning with the home football opener against SMU on Sept. 6.

And I remember when Denton County was a dry county. Lord, my mother is spinning in her grave!

For the longest time, my knowledge of Denton, Texas was limited to the Von Erichs. I'm guessing if the county was dry then, they didn't pay attention to it

RE: UNT to sell beer at football games
I think the earlier SMU announcement helped put extra pressure on our administration to follow suit.

Why would an SMU announcement put pressure on the UNT administration?
Glad UNT is serving beer, but I'm just curious about the reasoning behind your statement.

Another school in the metroplex offering something as part of their gameday experience that you don't currently offer? Seems pretty self explanatory to me.

SMU alums will go to SMU games and UNT alums will go to UNT games. As for the non-affiliateds, SMU and UNT are sufficiently far apart in distance (40 miles apart) that the availability of beer at one is unlikely to be a factor in a decision of which team's game to attend.

Sure, but if UNT started selling beer first you don't think SMU fans would be saying "ifUNT can do it, why can't we?".

I won't disagree with that as our fans have been saying that about Rice for several years...but our administration did not feel the pressure and immediately act. They chose not to sell beer until very recently, and that was due to an assessment of what was best for SMU and not what other college athletics programs around us were doing.
All I am saying is that I believe that the UNT decision was made for the best interest of UNT, independent of what other schools in the area are doing.

I'm in no way suggesting UNT only did it due to SMU doing, but merely agreeing that it probably played a role, even if it was as minor as the UNT administration letting out a sigh of relief when they were able to make it happen this year as to not have to hear complaints about SMU getting it done and they hadn't.

UT also announced. I don't have any specific insight, but I am sure it played a role just as the SMU announcement played a role.
