RE: OT: Stephen Colbert to replace David Letterman on Late Show
I prefer the Daily Show to the Colbert Report but I like Colbert a lot more than I like Letterman. I might actually watch the Late Show now.

I like SNL more than the Daily Show or Colbert, but I guess they've run out of candidates. Maybe Kenan Thompson?

Very intelligent comic, hope his replacement for his time slot on CC is a solid choice.

Based off of the rest of CC's scheduling, expect another half hour rerun of Tosh.0

I'll admit I'm disappointed... I wanted to see Ferguson get the shot.

I heard today that Fergusons contract with Worldwide Pants calls for an $8 million lump sum payment if he didn't replace Letterman

Seth Myer, the SNL news guy is replacing Colbert on Daily Show, I think. He said he was, but that was a while ago.

First of all. Colbert isn't on the Daily Show. That's John Stewart and Stewart isn't leaving.

Secondly, if they don't give John Oliver his own show in the same way they gave Stephen Colbert one, it would be a major travesty.

John Oliver just signed with HBO.

I am sure CC is realllly mad they lost him, but it made sense at the time.

Oliver just left Daily Show for HBO a month or two ago. He's getting his own show that looks exactly like the Daily Show.

The problem is that I don't think Comedy Central (or Jon Stewart) want to run shows back-to-back that are essentially the same. Though similar in its concept and audience, the Colbert Report was completely different from TDS in delivery.

Unless Stewart has an idea for something unique, I doubt that you will see him try to come up with anything to replace Colbert's show. Who knows, though?

Colbert was the number one pick for CBS.

Seth Meyers replaced Jimmy Fallon on his show when Jimmy Fallon replaced Leno.

RE: OT: Stephen Colbert to replace David Letterman on Late Show
I think he will do very well. Thinking about Colbert's interviews, he may have been playing a character but remember he has interviewed some very very distinguished people and handled them expertly. Those interviews, without the character inserting himself every now and again, are essential the bones of a late night show.

Competition among Late Night hosts is good for everyone.

I remember when the Colbert Report started and I wondered if a show done all in character could be maintained beyond a few segments a week. Funny that now we are having a hard time imagining him as himself instead of the character.

FWIW, he was pretty funny as a correspondent.

Are there any conservative comedians?

Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy?

Larry the Cable Guy is a persona, just like the character Stephen Colbert.

And Redneck/country comedian != conservative comedians

RE: OT: Stephen Colbert to replace David Letterman on Late Show
Good choice. He is a witty guy. It should make for some good banter during interviews. It will be interesting to see how he does without his shtick from The Colbert Report. It should still be good. The humor from The Colbert Report was derived from his wit not his character.

CBS definitely won this generation. NBC has been losing since Carson left. Jimmy Fallon is the anti-funny. Seriously... has that talentless hack ever made a quip? He is the late night host for pre-teens. Just dance around like a fool and the masses see comedic gold.

Let's all just be thankful they didn't get... uhh... "progressive" on us and pick Chelsea Handler or Arsenio Hall.
