Sounds like Tulsa is focusing on Bryce Drew at Valpo...Bob Hoffman and Joe Dooley are names that keep popping up.

RE: Tulsa's upside?
Solid athletics, decent facilities, strong academics. Mascot doesn't make much sense, but you have to work with what you have. I've always wondered if Tulsa was a public school with a larger enrollment but weaker academics, if they would be in a better position. They'd have more fans, but that's about it. What do y'all think?
FWIW, only one school in FBS football has a smaller enrollment than Tulsa, can anybody name that university without looking it up?

Bingo. I do worry about the future of private school athletic programs compared to public mid majors. We're seeing an unprecedented growth in public school enrolment, standards, endowment, which is helping the rise of these programs' athletic departments. For example, Miami (Fl) vs FAU/FIU, Rice vs Houston/UNT/UTSA/Texas St, Wake Forest/Duke vs. ECU, Charlotte, App St. Thankfully for Tulsa, there is no public FBS mid major program to compete with. That being the case, I think Tulsa is a great add for the American.
Looking forward to beating them down here in Boca come September!

RE: Tulsa's upside?
I think NO American program should average less than 25K in Football and nothing under 5K in basketball... If you want to be considered major, some of these members have to start acting it! Here's looking at you Tulsa, Tulane, and Temple. This conference has kicked Temple out before for bad athletic support, performance, and attendance. I think they should hold to high expectations. None of the struggling programs should lack fans - all except ECU are in populated markets.

RE: Tulsa's upside?
Tulane's basketball facility only holds 3,600...so they won't break 5,000

I don't think we'll have ANY issue with getting that attendance figure in basketball with all the great teams coming in... The new coach we hire will be a major factor in that as well.

RE: Tulsa's upside?
What I think are Tulsa's pros:
- The #61 TV market in the US
- High academic standards
- Competitive athletics
Every conference has a team like Tulsa:
B1G - Northwestern
SEC - Vanderbilt
ACC - Georgia Tech
Big12 - WVU (just kidding)
Pac12 - Utah (?)
Tulsa has a very good reputation and their TV market will help us in the next TV deal. So overall, a good add.

wow didn't realize it was that small, are their any plans on expansion? or better yet renovating it into a training facility and just getting a new arena? a 6k min should honestly be whats in this league
is this arena even suitable for espn to comfortably set up their equipment and and not make it awkward for their staff and analyst?
this is honestly a prep school arena not a d1 arena

They just renovated...no plans for expansion...plan to move a few key games like: UConn, Cincy, Memphis to NO Arena, if I remember right.
St Mary's, Manhattan, Harvard have similar size gyms...they've all made recent NCAAs

Hey UofMemphis.... The only reason Hoffman and Dooley's names keep popping up is because you keep typing them. PLEASE STOP. None of our fans want either one of them. You are perpetuating the problem here and on our rivals boards by saying they're people we want.

every single one of those teams play in small-time 1-bid leagues
3k is tiny for any team in a major bball league..again im just saying a 6k min, even with that theyd still be bottom 5% in any multi-bid league, you probably won't find arenas that small in any multi-bid league not the a-10 and tulane is still probably the smallest in that league aswell

Please...I don't write the news, I just post what I read from actual news outlets.
http://www.kjrh.com/sports/college-sport...-of-mercer
http://www.naplesnews.com/news/2014/apr/...artner=RSS
http://www.macon.com/2014/04/04/3029846/...clock.html
I guarantee you that our news outlets get a good deal of "news" from our boards. In turn, other areas' news outlets get their news from the AP which would basically be quoting our outlet's story. So, if you keep putting their names up there the outlets will keep printing them.
