One thing that is going to make a world of difference in last year's App/GS teams is the amount of enthusiasm on field and in camp this year.
I think it's already a night and day difference with the coaches and players in the level of enthusiasm on the field and that translates directly into one's ability to learn (new systems, etc.).
This time last year there was a lot of "Well are our guys really motived? What's the emotion like at practice?" There is an overwhelming approval with both the coaches and the players on our fields right now.
Ultimately though, I think our two programs success will rely heavily on the amount of injuries we sustain this season. Our 1's can run with any teams 1's in the Belt IMO, our 2's and 3's will struggle a good bit.
True. Neither program has built up the real quality back ups we need to have, so injuries are going to play a larger part than any other year.
Different atmosphere this year though, and less punches pulled. NCAA should change the way transition is handled. Puts negative vibes where they shouldn't exist.
Ding, Ding, Ding.
That's exactly what happened to us in 2012. No depth. Part of my reason for picking you guys lower than you think is because we saw that transition in action.

This. I do take heed of what all the other recent transition teams have said about moving up and understand it could get ugly, but our football program has been known for doing the unexpected so I remain hopeful. I'm expecting around a 6-6, but hopeful for 8-4 or better, but fully understand a few turnovers or lack-luster finishes could easily put us at 4-8.
I ran your post through Word Saver and came up with:
We might do well, but maybe we won't.
Good luck GaSouthern. Glad you guys joined the Belt.
Then you overlooked the words hope and expectations, they have different meanings. Smart***

That's good to hear. I had a brother who was both an attorney and a politician but I was always so ashamed that I told my friends he was a piano player in a whorehouse.

Who really knows, all I know is stAte will be okay. We will win games we are supposed too, and problem lose a few we aren't supposed to. Sound similar to your team?

Am sure that is true Tom. Could be a good year, but a large chance with injuries will be more inept than would like to be. Depends a lot on who gets injured and when.

RE: Most likely to make a run for the top?
If we are talking the top (meaning 1st or 2nd), then it's really easier to say which teams most likely won't be making a run.
The Cajuns & stAte - They are predicted to be at the top already, so... tough to make a run there.
New Mexico State, Idaho, & Georgia State - I think they are a year of results away from anyone predicting they could make a run to the top. Improved? I'd say they will be this year. Run to the top? Not so much.
Georgia Southern & App State - Depth issues will keep them from making a serious run. A great season for them will be (in my view) 4-7.
So, I guess the other four have a good shot to make a run to the top - USA, Troy, ULM, & Texas State. Though, I don't know enough about what ULM has coming back, so they could easily fall down into the "not gonna make a run".

I think ULM returns some of the most starters in the league, so I'm not sure where the ULM lost a lot is coming from. Yes, we did lose Browning and everyone knows that's a big loss. Guess we'll see. I have no idea, but I do think we'll be top half.

App and Southern both go 4-7? In this scenario, do we not play each other, or are you saying we will end up between 4th and 7th?

Sorry, that was ambiguous on my part. I meant ending up in the standings in fourth place through 7th place.
