I guess it really turned for me when they got a kid who was kicked out of Rutgers because he was arrested and actually served time in jail for felony assult on his pregnant girlfriend, twice, and USF lets him on the team after he got out of jail.

That basically is a pure example of what happens at USF.

Sir Galahad Wrote:Its like UCF recruiting against ECU, its much harder to get into UCF than ECU. Well, the Big East schools should be very worried of USF's past history of admissions.

BULL

Fact is it is tougher for athletes to get in to ECU because the NC University System has higher standards than the NCAA minimums. As far as Non Qualifiers we can only take IN-STATE NQ's and we only take a couple of those a year. Also we have restrictions on Junior College transfers from the NC system. The state of NC does not allow "D's" to transfer in, and many JUCO's and transfers do not have the credits to transfer in. Or choose not to because it sets them so behind.

This from an article about Calipari turning down the NCSU job about NC's tougher standards of academic's......

"One of the things that alarmed Calipari was the significant difference between UNC-system academic requirements and those of the NCAA. As a public university in North Carolina, N.C. State is part of the UNC system, which also includes UNC, East Carolina and a dozen other schools. Each of those universities must abide by the rules set forth by the UNC-system Board of Governors, which in recent years has raised minimum academic requirements to a point well above the NCAA minimums.

I didn?t even know about (the new rules) in North Carolina," one ACC coach said. "Anybody who tells you it doesn?t matter doesn?t know recruiting. If your school?s (academic) requirements are higher than the NCAA requirements, whether it?s because of these state rules or your university?s philosophy or any other reason, it makes your job tougher. It?s not the only variable -- lots of other things impact whether a job is good or bad -- but it?s an important variable.

also has several requirements that are higher than those of the NCAA. For example, starting this fall, all UNC-system schools will require at least two units of foreign language. (The NCAA requires none.) UNC-system schools also now require four units of math and three of science. The NCAA requires only two math and two science units right now.

The extra (beyond the NCAA minimums) math units involve classes beyond algebra I and algebra II, such as geometry and calculus. The extra science unit typically involves biology, chemistry, physics or a laboratory course.

"Those are important differences," the ACC coach said. "Can you imagine recruiting a star player, and Memphis tells him he can take so-and-so classes as a senior, and you have to tell him that he still needs calculus and physics?

"Hell, yes, that matters. Many kids are thinking about basketball and girls going into their senior year, and the last thing they want to hear from you is that they have to take difficult classes that this team over here is telling them they don?t have to take."

"

This is why recruiting rankings are such a joke.

Looks like USF has lost another recruit who didn't qualify: (Mentioned toward bottom of article)

Carlton Hill arrested on marijuana charge
TAMPA -- USF quarterback Carlton Hill and two former Bulls football players were arrested Monday at a campus apartment on misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana.

According to a USF Police report, Hill, 21, was arrested in a dormitory apartment with four other men, including former USF linebacker Devon Davis and former safety Drametrice Smith.

Coach Jim Leavitt declined to comment Thursday night, saying he would wait for more information before making any decision about Hill, who was released on his own recognizance and given a court date.

Leavitt said Hill has not been dismissed from the team, but a larger issue could come from USF?s Student Affairs committee, which can hand down sanctions for drug-related arrests on campus.

Hill, who was listed as USF?s starting quarterback entering spring drills, missed much of those workouts because of academic problems and lost the starting job. Leavitt has mentioned redshirting Hill this fall, and said he is also considering moving him to receiver.

Hill, who could not be reached for comment, was arrested and expelled from Jefferson County High School in March 2004 after he and a female student were found having consensual sex on school grounds.

He completed his senior year at an alternative school and adjudication was withheld on a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor after he completed probationary requirements.

Davis was dismissed from the team last spring after being arrested on drug charges in 2004. He spent six weeks in county jail this spring after being arrested for failing to appear in court on those charges. Davis and Smith last played for USF in 2004.

RECRUITING: A third member of USF?s incoming recruiting class has been lost to academic problems.

David Fonua, a defensive end from Bradenton Southeast, will not attend USF this fall after failing to meet initial eligibility requirements. He plans on taking entrance exams this fall and joining USF on scholarship in January.

Taking his spot as a scholarship freshman will be a high school teammate, receiver A.J. Love, a 6-foot-2, 185-pounder who will start summer classes on Monday.

Love had only nine catches as a senior, missing four games with an ankle injury, but is fast enough to reach the state track semifinals in the 200 meters.

?South Florida felt like home to me,? said Love, who had offers from The Citadel, Wake Forest and Florida A&M.

Defensive tackle Leslie Stirrups and quarterback Alwan Lee, who signed with USF in February, will attend junior college instead after failing to qualify academically.

Why I started this thread, now lets look at the Rivals Rankings again.

With todays events, USF would now be ranked #72, one spot ahead of UCONN and behind UCF, USM and UAB. That is using their star ranking, it would be worse if you used their RR rankings.

I think it's funny that you make fun of USF for being a directional school when (gasp) you are one. Who cares about SouthwesternCentral Mississippi?

That's a serious question.

Question, how did Louisville backstab C-USA. I think you have us confused with TCU.

We told you from the beginning we would leave for a better opportunity when it arose. Did you honestly think we would stay in C-USA over a Big East invite. If you did then you are dumber then I thought.

BTW, you can call us whatever you like, but on New Years you will be watching our Football Champion in one of the 5 BCS Bowls and in March you will see the NCAA Basketball Tournament with more then it fair share of Big East schools.
