to get some credibility sbc teams need to schedule "name" teams and beat them. losing by 60 pts. to somebody just sets everything back.
I disagree. Losing to Arkansas doesn't set everything back, mainly because "that's expected".
It certainly doesn't help the "cause" but it isn't like the world comes crumbling down because of a lose to a P5 school.
To get to where the conference needs to be, those games have to be won, but let's be real: Under current perception, a Sun Belt team SHOULD lose to Arkansas. So from a perception standpoint, it's "eh, status quo."

Well we all can't play Kentucky can we?

Quite honestly there is not a lot of difference between the 2, they are likely the worst 2 teams in the SEC. UK only lost to South Carolina by 1 TD, at least a good point that UK might be better.

We're talking about expectations for a top 25 team and a SBC team here. Like NIU or not, the primary reason they are sitting near the top 15 has nothing to do with beating up on UMass and Eastern Michigan...its because NIU beat up on both BCS teams they played...including a 30 point win at Purdue.
Arkansas almost has as little respect nationally right now as a purdue does. Pollsters are going to look at UL and see 7 SBC wins, along with wins over a bad FCS team, a bad Akron team, and a bad NMSU team. They are then going to see a loss to a bad Arkansas team, and a loss to an average Kansas State squad.
Their best chance at getting in involves going to to a bowl and beating a team with a strong reputation.

That may be someone's opinion but the fact that WKU loss to the Cajuns speaks volumes because that game mattered more to both of our progams.

I agree with pretty much everything in this thread, ULL doesn't deserve to be anywhere near the top 25. Beat bcs schools first then come back...

So it's now required that you have to beat a BCS school to crack the top 25. Thanks for clearing that up

If you win out in convincing fashion and beat a quality team handily in your bowl then you might make the Top 25. No guarantees, but you might depending on how other bowls turn out. It's just the way it is. Some of these guys are yanking your chains.

Lets keep some things in perspective though. NIU last season lost to a team of equal standing as Arkansas in Iowa, and had no marquee wins until beating Kent state last season in the MAC championship game. Finished 12-1 and finished ranked #16. I'm not saying we're as good as NIU was/is, BUT I will say that 1 bad loss may not knock you out of the conversation. Cajuns will move up a bit this week with #23-25 all losing. I don't think we'll be top 25, but we will creep ever closer in the receiving votes category. I don't think it's unfathomable that if we win out, we can be ranked. Now, that doesn't mean that I think we're a top 25 team, especially after the way we played today, but we shall see.

All I hear is "blah, blah, blah" We will win 11 and come back with a power house team next year.

I'm sorry... But are you really trying to say that the average fan views Arkansas and Purdue as the same (or on equal footing)?
That's just crazy talk. Whether it's true or not, the perception is that Arkansas is a powerhouse, and Purdue is a doormat. To the pollsters? I'm sure there's a more realistic look. But I'm not so much concerned with polls. I'm more concerned with the perception of the conference.

Re-read my post, I'm saying the currently 3 win Arkansas team is equal to a bad 4 win Iowa team that beat NIU last year. NIU finished last year ranked #16 before their BCS game, if we win out, it's not inconceivable that we can be a ranked team. I am not saying anything about Purdue or NIU this year, they are legit and have won every game put in front of them, I'm referencing last season.
