RE: UL SID announced on ESPN a big announcement coming at 9:00am
Well I guess it comes down to Indiana dodging Us in Football and Basketball. Even in the good years. The fans around here seem to think it would be a fun series. I always love the Cincinnati games We play and hope They continue. I was a big fan of the WVU series. But some of the talk from some WVU fans not named Bit Cruncher or Jackson have ruined the spirit of that rivalry for Me. Same with UConn . The Indiana thing though is its neighbor vs. neighbor back yard tussle and braging rights at work.

Was the announcement an official confirmation of the UK game?

I prefer Cincinnati myself. Our most played opponent. We also need to catch up on their win total (currently they hold the series lead 30-21-1)

How can you say the Keg of Nails is not an awesome rivalry... Last year UL beats UC in overtime to go to BCS Bowl to get the series back fired up as UC had been out front for the most of the last five years etc. Cincy is in the top 5 most winning programs in the last five years hardly mid-major!
Bets of Luck Cards going to ACC (Your AD is the best in the business), but UL and UC belong together forever!
Return trip in 2105......good luck I'll have my pom poms cheering from the heavens above....
As for the rivalry, I mean no disrespect here, but the fact that UL came in and developed an instant rivalry with WVU says something to me to the level the Keg of Nails really is, which has limitations....not really sure what it is, but if you polled a large portion of UL, WVU, and non UC fans I'm not sure you would like the results of which two should play each other every year.
Yes the UL vs UC games have been fun, but they don't get the blood boiling type fun locally/nationally like for some reason the WVU series has done in the past.
As someone who has followed UC-UofL for a very long time, I don't think it was a heated rival by either side. What I mean is that the two schools/fanbases don't hate one another like you would expect to see from true "rivalries" (ie. OSU/MI, Alabama/Auburn, Pitt/WVU, etc.). They have a lot of history together in various conferences/as an Indy and have many commonalities. The two schools have basically been brother schools for the most part. When Louisville is playing anyone but UC I root for them to win (as long as it doesn't hurt the Bearcats in terms of standings/conference titles).

Same with Me . I root for Cincinnati and Syracuse when We aren't playing them. Cincinnati has always been fun to watch since I started watching Basketball in 1970. Both Football programs grew up in the ensuing years. Syracuse had Brown, Csonka and a lot of history. My wife grew up near Syracuse and was a big fan. She loves the Cardinals though and Our Daughter just graduated from Louisville. Winning Class of 2013!

My personal preference is Cincinnati for both sports.
UC has played UofL more times in football than any other opponent (52 games) and the Keg of Nails game is the oldest trophy game for Louisville (started 1929). In basketball, we've competed against the Bearcats since 1921 and have played more games against them (96 in total) than any other team in our history. It is a competitive rivalry in both sports and Cincinnati is an easy road trip for our fans.
That said, Jurich's comments at the ACC spring meetings weren't all that promising.
"If we’re going to keep one [rivalry game], we’re going to keep Kentucky. That’s something that’s so important in our state, and the commonwealth of Kentucky relies on that game, so it’s something I want to make sure we keep. We might be able to play both in the same year once in a while, because Cincinnati has been a great rivalry, too." ( link)
Based on a few things I've heard, I think UofL is probably going to prioritize starting a hoops+football series with IU over keeping the UC-UofL football game. Louisville has wanted to get an annual series going with Indiana in both sports for as long as I can remember and I know for a fact that Jurich has offered to packaged a football home-and-home deal with a basketball home-and-home multiple times. IU isn't nearly as good of a football program as UC is, but they are a regional Big 10/Power 5 school and I do think there would be a lot of interest in this area if those games were scheduled (e.g. I probably hear 5-10 ads on the radio every week for IU football and there are definitely a lot of IU fans in the Indiana portion of the Louisville Metro). However, just because UofL wants the games doesn't mean IU does and it wouldn't surprise me to see the Hoosiers continue to refuse the series (Rick offered to travel to Bloomington this year if IU would come to Louisville next year and Crean still said no).
