These student-athletes of which he writes, who supposedly are good enough "for the MAC", did not garner interest from any other Division 1 schools, including 1AA. Yet they are apparently good enough for the MAC - or perhaps the MAC is low enough for them.

I agree. He seems to forget about the whole FCS subdivision
To the best of my recollection, the MAC has had only one recent year when some team didn't lose to IAA/FCS. So, I see no reason why it's an insult not to believe these players could contribute to the MAC.
Yes, a top FCS team can likely compete with the MAC any given year,
Which is my point. And it validates why Usher can write what he did w/ legitimacy. He thinks they're good players...not that the MAC sucks.
I didn't read any dislike for the MAC in his article. He was just questioning why these HS players had no offers. I'd like him to dig a little more and offer some plausible reasons why small town schools are often overlooked, but I didn't read any MAC bashing.

RE: Is the MAC overlooking talent
There are many Lima area players on MAC rosters who received scholarships. All Usher is saying is this guy is as talented as others who he has seen get scholies in the past. I too have seen a few athletes in the Lima area not get offers who I believe should from MAC schools for one reason or another. Football coaches react like most males/females do. When one likes them most everyone jumps on board and wants a date. If something is found to be wrong [perception] with someone, the word spreads and no one wants to date them. Coaches from different schools talk more with each other than girls at a slumber party. There are always going to be those not invited to the prom. Same goes for recruiting. He just think Bruns is one of the cute ones who didn't get a date.
