Boise State not going to Big East
I'm surprised there wasn't a thread on this already. It's now official that Boise State will remain in the Mountain West and not go to Big East. Reported on ESPN and CBS.

WKU could be in CUSA very soon. Could be more too if the MWC and BE both take from CUSA. If an implosion happens, CUSA and the Sun Belt could merge.

I guess we wait on San Diego State to do the same. Then that puts Big East at what, 9 football members?

San Diego State will soon follow.

10, the question then becomes will the Big East stick at 10, or poach to try and get back to 12. If they poach, CUSA loses USM, maybe Neck. We lose WKU, and probably the opportunity to take NMSU.

I could likely see a CUSA and SBC merger at this point. It is speculated that the MWC will take Tulsa and UTEP (a major blow to CUSA bball). The BE would then take the best of the rest in CUSA (no idea who that would be at that point, maybe USM and Marshall?).

Ideally that would make sense, but don't count on anything that makes sense with realignment.

Next people will suggest that Democrats and Republicans put aside ideaology and do what's best for the country.

To the surprise of nobody, @JFowlerCBS lists UTSA as showing interest in MWC, along Rice, UTEP, Houston. No mention of TXST

RE: Boise State not going to Big East
The Big East is all about markets, even more so than CUSA was. La Tech and USM have very ittle chance to get in. Look for ODU and maybe Charlotte to get the call.

Tulane will try and veto La Tech, but may push USM so you could have USM and ODU get the invite?

Who knows, but my guess is that stAte and the Cajuns are in the same conference going forward.

Whoa. That seems to be in another realm of impossibility.

They probably heard BYU was coming back.

RE: Boise State not going to Big East
New year and we get the same old junk, more conference realignment. I have no idea who is going where anymore, and until the dust settles, really don't care.03-zzz

Each year for the next few years, when the season starts I'll look at the conference standings to figure out who is playing where.

There won't be a merger. CUSA will simply again raid the SBC for however many members it needs after it gets raided of by the BE and MWC. I agree that WKU to CUSA is almost a sure thing at this point.

I'll lay odds that MWC won't touch a new program like UTSA. They don't need to.

Especially if they get UH, UTEP, and SMU.

I'm not sure western is a lock anymore. I don't think we are fighting to bring them in as a partner. Odu and former WKU AD says they are not a fit. I think it is an uphill battle for them.

If WKU does not end up in CUSA, I imagine they will try and attach themselves to ASU and ULL.

We already have a pretty good idea that ASU, and ULL are working together, I wouldnt be shocked if WKU tried to join in. Both schools have good relationships with the Toppers, and WKU's Olympic Sports are strong, something where ASU and the Cajuns struggle a bit.

None of our athletic programs are making money, but Olympic sports bring very little, if any revenue into athletics in terms of donations or ticket sales. Its great to be competitive in athletics across the board, but Football and Basketball are your most visible sports in college athletics.
