RE: You gotta love this argument
Rutgers could do just fine in the B1G. I don't know that they will compete for the title ever year, but I coudl easily see them sliding right in the middle fo the pack. They actually have a fairly fertile recruiting home territory with a new avenue to better mine it. They also recruit Flroida very well. On an anual basis the B1G, like the SEC, ahs 3 or 4 good teams. The rest are very beatable.

Well their rivals would be PSU and Maryland. Thats like saying "Oh Mizz to the SEC, Mizz and Ole Miss what a rivalry!"
You make my point exactly...it's about the MONEY....
How? You can't just take two random teams and try to prove it's a bad fit. What to the Arizona schools have in common with the Washington schools? Arkansas and South Carolina? Iowa St and Baylor? Florida St and Duke? Penn St and Northwestern?
You can make those team comparisons way before this latest round of realignment.
They all have nothing in common...except they want more Money....that's what it has come to...UC would do the exact same thing as Rutgers...sad but true
Everyone wants more money, but these moves were made before the explosion of CFB TV contracts.

Illinois went to the Rose bowl in 2007 and went bowling in the last two seasons.

Rutgers/Maryland moves make perfect sense when B1G adds UVA & UNC (or perhaps Gtech).
all huge land-grant AAU state schools with excellent academic reputations, TV foot prints, and research opportunities.
Great rivalries in geographical proximity... PSU, OSU, MD, RU, UVA, UNC, indiana, purdue.
Rutgers/MD are first dominoes to allow those two other ACC AAU schools to walk right in.

What rivalries is Rutgers abandoning in Big East fb? All the Eastern Indies are gone or going.
Of course it's about money, but there's no tradition in the Big East anymore. That's why Rutgers fans are jubilant about today while Maryland fans and alumni are skeptical.
I'd like to see Rutgers continue their UConn rivalry.

Not so fast, no way the B1G is the first to go to 16. They need the SEC or Pac-12 to do it first.

So would I. My buddy is a UConn alum and that date ended up being circled on our calendars every year.
It's an undeveloped rivalry that I think has a lot of potential.

It's fair for a sports reporter to discuss a school's comparatively unremarkable sports body of work.
