Michael Arndt, who was just revealed yesterday to be writing a treatment for the trilogy, has now been confirmed to be penning the screenplay for Star Wars: Episode VII as well. Plus, pre-production on the film has begun.

A treatment? Hasn't it gone through enough changes?

A treatment of the new, as yet unmade, trilogy. Not the original.

They didn't call, they backed a truck of money up to his house.

I like the choice but its killing me that Ben Affleck was a finalist and didn't get it. He was my first choice.

Exciting times for Star Wars. I like what they have done with the clone wars. Can't wait until Episode VII hits the streets in 2015(projected)

Please tell me you are kidding, Affleck would be worse than Jar Jar Binks.

I think the only person better than JJ would of been Spielberg, and didn't see that happening.

From a SciFi story telling perspective, no one beats JJ at the moment. Star Wars (the original trilogy) was beyond cutting edge from a special effects perspective. I hope JJ consults with Peter Jackson to incorporate what he's learned from doing the Hobbit in high frame rate 3D.

Nope, and I hope Affleck gets a crack at Episode 8. He's 3 for 3 in directing awesome movies. Granted they weren't sci fi.

It is being said that it was Spielberg who cemented the gig for Abrams.

Since the Disney purchase of Lucasfilm...

-The Disney Parks planned expansion with an Oz theme have been scrapped in favor of a Star Wars theme.

-In addition to the sequel trilogy, there will be a stand alone film based on Yoda.

Wow and wow!

We are sitting at a time when the Jedi are banished and heading to the Hapan Consortium. Luke has rebuilt the Jedi Order, but it looks very different from the prequels. The prequels make them a monk-ish type order. That's not the case in the expanded universe.

The remaining Solo child is fully grown and married, and Ben is in his late teens. Making it all adults wouldn't make sense in a Disney movie. They want teenage and child stars to appeal to a new generation of kids. That would only leave Ben and the other similar aged Jedi, or they trample the Expanded Universe.

They may walk it back from the current story and still have the rise of Darth Caedus.

But, a younger jedi going to the dark side and needing redemption makes more sense. Basically a young jedi starting out conflicted and going down the wrong way. Then ending up by the third movie redeeming himself makes more sense for a Disney movie.

Yep, a full trampling of the Expanded Universe.

Lucas has said numerous times that the Expanded Universe should not be taken as canon...and having read some of those stories, I can see why. If they want to tramples the EU storyline, I say more power to them.

RE: OT: Disney Buying Lucasfilm
Not much of a Star Wars fan but I will say Disney is getting one heck of a piece of land in this deal with the Lucasfilm campus at Presidio in San Francisco. I was there last year and went on a tour and it is pretty amazing what Lucas did with the old military base there. Our driver who was giving us the tour pretty much made us stop and although like I said not being much of a Star Wars fan, I was impressed with all the Star Wars stuff on that campus from the Yoda statue to all the old Star Wars costume pieces inside.

Affleck is a good director, but knowing him, he would have all the characters have a Boston accent and would try to play the main role in the movie.

That might just fit-in in the SW universe, lol. Have you ever noticed everyone from a specific planet looks and sound similar. Southie bounty hunters, FTW!

You know, I genuinely like the prequels but I don't like that every detail was filled in. Though seeing a young Han Solo rescue Chewie would be awesome. Also, these movies are rumored to be before ROTJ therefor Darth mother******* Vader can appear. That is a license to print money.
