I will always have a special place for the Cougars after the beat down they put on that freaking child molesting program up East last year in the bowl game. Nice job, you guys will be back up soon, every school has to reload some years. Just ready for mine to load for the first time in 5 or 6 years, it is getting tough.

You can't beat Texas State or Louisiana Tech but you're going to beat us regularly? Lay off the crack pipe, Bubba.

I'm mildly joking. I do understand how big the other programs are around you, and UCF/USF fans can surely relate to that.

Florida had only three 1-A programs. Texas had ten. The talent in Texas was more diluted at the college level.

Texas also has nearly twice as many high school students as Florida. TX is a bigger state and doesn't have millions of retirees.

Florida also lost a LOT of recruits to schools up North. Texas keeps their recruits in-house.

If you want a fair comparison, compare yourself to a place the same size as yours. How about combining Ohio, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania. Totals 25 million people, same as Texas. The talent in those three states is diluted even more than in Texas, with 13 D-1 schools. But there's a lot more national titles in OH, PA, and WV than in Texas over any time period. A lot more ranked teams over the past several years, too.

RE: In the defense of the University of Houston
Since the "troll" has successfully hijacked this thread, the original post is about our neighbor up the road, Texas A&M, spending $450 MILLION to RENOVATE its stadium. That is what SMU and Houston are up against in our backyards. What we have been up against for 30 years. So maybe you can understand our perspective a bit. We simply aren't overly concerned with having to earn a berth in a major bowl, or being perceived as the 6th conference, etc. SMU and UH will carry our weight. We just want a seat at the adult table, where we were in the old Southwest Conference . . . . oh, and winning Conference Championships on a regular basis despite competing against this kind of wealth, power, etc., etc.

First off it appears La Tech may be a BCS buster and UH was a half a yard away from recovering an onside kick to try and tie them up late. They're probably better than anyone the Lou has beaten.

But you really don't want to play this game, do you? It's like saying Michigan lost to Appalachian State or how Texas lost to Baylor and was routed on their home field by UCLA a couple years ago, shortly removed (past and future) from having really good teams. Do we even need to touch how down Louisville has been of late until this year.

Teams occasionally have down years, heck look at Boise who is probably not a top 25 team (their probably a bottom 25 offense) after replacing so much NFL talent and their four year starting QB. UH lost all their offensive skill players except one, their coaching staff and a few key defensive players. While I never expected them to struggle this much, this is a reality check and rebuilding job. It happens.

The people you are defending it from have agendas and reality is the least of their concern ; the people who really know what Houston brings to the table are already on your side. Houston has a proud history and a wonderful future. That future will speak volumes to doubters over time.

I don't mean to troll, but what have they accomplished?

Well, like someone once said don’t let the facts get in the way of a good story. We realize their is a perception problem concerning our University, we are aware of this, and we know, we need to dispel it , that’s what I’m here to do. “ Everyone is entitled to their opinion but not to their own facts,” as the late New York Senator Patrick Moynihan once said. Fact University of Houston has an illustrious sport tradition and history. Some that other University sport programs wish they had. UH is home to a Heisman and Lombardi trophy winners . The football program, winner of several conference titles (SWC, CUSA) , the University of Coach Bill Yeoman inventor of the vaunted veer offense, used by college and NFL (ala Colin Kapernick, Robert Griffin and other QB run now in the NFL) teams still today 2nd most winning Coach in Texas collegiate football history right behind UT's Coach Darrell Royal. Over 165 Alumni have played in the NFL which puts us among a the top tier Universities providing the NFL a talent pool. If you look at the current winning Coaches that are winning on the collegiate level in Texas Baylor, Texas A&M Texas Tech all their current head coaches either have a UH pedigree either they got there 1st HC job at UH or they were assistants at UH (Art Briles, Kevin Sumlin, Kliff Kingsbury) program. University was part of the “Game of the century” UCLA vs Houston, (1st ever basketball game ever, be it collegiate or professional to be played in front of 52,000 plus fans) in attendance. A attendance record that stood for many decades. Home of Phi Slamma Jama one of only 3 schools to have 3 or more NBA Hall Famers in NBA Hall of Fame, as well as NBA all time greatest 50 players ( the other 2 are UCLA and UNC) and a coach in the Basketball Hall of Fame Guy V Lewis 5 time participant in the NCAA in the final 4 and played 2 times for the national championship many time participant in NCAA tournament . University to one of the greatest Olympian track super stars the world has ever seen, Carl Lewis (10 times medalist 9 Gold, 1 silver medalist in the Olympic’s ) who broke the great Jesse Owens medal records in track, he is one amongst a number of Olympic medalist athletes that UH has provided to our nation and who are proud to call them selves UH alumni. UH is home 16 NCAA golf championship trophies alumni Freddy Couple , Fuzzy Zoeller . Interested in knowing more the UH sport history go to Wikipedia look it u at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Houston_Cougars. I’ll put UH sports history up against a lot of university sports pedigree, that’s’ who we are and what we have done and will hopefully continue to do.

This is just a dumb thread about a school with a little brother complex. Which is ubiquitous in this conference, hence the reason our schools are in this conference to begin with. Lock this thread and save everyone some precious minutes of our lives. I know I want the two minutes it took to write this back already.

Ummm......Memphis is in the middle of SEC country.

With that said, I'm on the Houston bandwagon. I enjoy watching the Coogs play.

RE: In the defense of the University of Houston
I rarely hear many hits on UH sports at least in Texas and they certainly won their fair share of titles in the old SWC (a BCS type conf.) but when it comes to academics, well now that's another story. Glad to have them as a conference mate and proper rival and glad to see their success in our new conference.

Well for one thing, Coogs have much better things to do than waste time on other conferences boards... asking questions like this about schools in other conferences. Quite a bit of that nonsense on this thread... 07-coffee3

Feel better? I swear you're a f$cking child. What's the matter bro? Did mommy not hug you enough? I'm sure there's an unclean animal, somewhere in that urine soaked basement you live in, that you can abuse. Don't worry I'm sure your dad will get home soon and kick your a$$ for you again. It's obvious you deserve it.

And if you think that's not true. Go back and read what I wrote and how you responded? Child? look in a mirror.
