The crowd who witnessed Temple beat California (55,952) was the largest in the short history of that Bowl.
And how many of those fans were Temple fans. I'd be willing to bet it was less than %5 of the fans in the stadium, and that's being generous...
You know the Garden State Bowl was in Jersey, right? California is the Golden State, NJ is the Garden State. Temple's about an hour and a half away from Giants Stadium and has a strong alumni network in the region. Cal is on the the other side of the country. As such, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the crowd was more than 5% Temple fans.
You know, I totally missed that, Chris. I read what it should have been, and didn't even see Golden in his statement. It's amazing what the brain will allow you to see when you aren't paying attention...

Which is logistically impossible, fortunately.
Not at all. Villanova could work out a deal to play at Penn's stadium without causing a conflict at the Linc.
Not a chance. Part of the reason (literally spelled out) Temple was removed from the conference was due to the conditions of Franklin Field. It hasn't got any better.
I understand the anti-temple stuff. But saying Temple brought 5% of the fans to a bowl in JERSEY playing CAL, and saying Nova can play at Franklin Field is just over the line. Nova isn't going anywhere...they were approached when UCONN moved up. It was a no then, and a no now. They've studied it a few times...it doesn't work with their size, economics, etc.
And for that matter neither is Temple, anytime soon. It would take the FB schools to split, and it seems more and more like the BE will be again reactive instead of proactive when it comes to conference movement. IF Temple puts 30k in the Linc consistently, IF Temple can keep winning games, and ONLY WHEN Nova is not involved in a split forming a Football Big East, then Temple MAY get a call. The biggest anti-Temple people from the last time around are retired or in the ACC.
For the foreseeable future, the only thing Temple and the BE have in common are some games with UCONN (which Rutgers turned down) and a possible date in Canada soon.
I dont know why you're so pessimistic regarding our future. I'm not saying we're going to be back in 5-8 years, but I dont think it's a stretch to think that with continued success, attendance growth and consistency, we could be back in 10-15 years.

Franklin Field wasn't the issue. Temple was playing most of its games at the Vet.
Franklin Field is a fine stadium but it lacks the features teams and fans have come to expect--no video boards, no suites, no bells and whistles. With the new turf, the 100 yards is fine, but the rest of the field is frozen in time, and since it's used basically seven times a year (five home games, the Penn Relays, and commencement), that's fine with UPenn.

Yeah, I figured it was something like that since I know you're the #1 proponent of a NEW Garden State Bowl. We'll have to see how the new Yankee Bowl game goes, then maybe we can get a bowl game at the new Giants/Jets stadium.
We need to get away from our dependence upon bowls that don't want us. If we create our own bowl games ( if we have to have bowls) in the NYC area, and people attend the games, it will be a HUGE game in short order. New York City demands the biggest and the best, and if the game is successful, it will become HUGE in no time flat...
