Goodwin was from the wolverine conference here in the Kazoo area which I follow. He is a very talented all around athlete, but I thought a bit of a reach for D1 by the Genyk staff....Maybe he'll qualify for D2 and follow his South Haven QB to Grand Valley...

Tyler Thomas and Josh Williams are team mates again at Ferris State. Both are looking well at camp. Both will be assets to the Ferris Program.

Goodwin has reported, and I assume has been cleared to practice. I hadn't really seen him up close and in person for a couple years. He's grown a little taller and filled out a lot! If he's got the speed, he'll make a good sized DB...

We've mentioned this before. There's a noticeable difference it the height of the speed guys RE is bringing in. You just don't see as many of the 5'8" and 5'9" guys as the previous staff would bring in. Almost all appear to be 6' plus.

There are a couple of young kickers that have reported. Hopefully they can address what I think is one of our most glaring weaknesses....the ability to kick off deep with hangtime. The opponents average starting field position last season cost us games.

Excellent news on Goodwin. Question: What is wrong with our current kickers? The one who does field goals seems very accurate-not sure about distance.

I think he's evolving into a good field goal kicker. The problem is kick offs. We usually kick down to the 20, and after returns we are lucky to have the opponent start in their own territory. I know we have guys that can kick it further down the field, but if you can't kick it deep with lots of altitude (hang time), it becomes a coverage nightmare for the kickoff team. The Temple game was the perfect example last year. I believe Temple started at least 4 times on our side of the 50 yard line, and past their 40 several more times. A D1 program needs to kick it at least down to the 5 yard line with hang time, or you'll always be in the hole. It definely cost us that game IMO.

A few weights from todays official weigh in. Palsrok 6'4" 284 lbs. Leonard 6' 289 lbs. Slater 6'3" 273...maybe we're not as undersized on the DL as some feared.

Not sure....still checking on that one...might have been in different weigh-in group....My guess would be pushing 260....hopefully they will update the rosters soon.
