"I don't know a thing about cars, " says new GM Chairman
Quote:“I don’t know anything about cars,” Whitacre, 67, said yesterday in an interview after his appointment. “A business is a business, and I think I can learn about cars.

B.O.'s pick to supervise the bankruptcy of GM? A 31 year old recent grad student finds himself dismantling General Motors and rewriting the rules of American capitalism.

The not-quite graduate of Yale Law School had never set foot in an automotive assembly plant until he took on his nearly unseen role in remaking the American automotive industry.

Text message to his friends: You're not f$%king going to believe this. My first job out of college and I score the top gig in taking apart GM. Sweet!

RE: "I don't know a thing about cars, " says new GM Chairman
The ability to sustain a “global enterprise” and set clear lines of responsibility is pivotal to GM’s future, said Michael Robinet, an automotive analyst at CSM Worldwide Inc. in Northville, Michigan.

“Let’s face it: The chairman is not necessarily operational,” Robinet said. “The chairman is about ensuring a strategy is followed.”

Sounds like this guy is a pretty good choice to me. He made a success out of the phone business while all the deregulation was taking place, so taking a swipe at the GM job would probably seem less complex to him.

Unlike Rush Limbaugh, I wish Whitacre and GM nothing but the best. I would like to see that federal loan paid off and the federal government out of the car business.

Quote:Unlike Rush Limbaugh, I wish Whitacre and GM nothing but the best.

I heard the program where he made talked about American apathy towards GM and Chrysler. As always it is being taken out of context by a bunch of dying newspapers.

Limbaugh regarding those reports
Quote:I have never, ever done such a thing, and I didn't do this with General Motors. All I did, to clarify, was report a poll that said X number of Americans -- what was it, 18 or 20% -- say they are not going to buy a GM car anymore, after this bailout. Or a Chrysler. They're not going to do it, and then I said after that that I could understand it, and I had received e-mail from people who were not going to buy a car from General Motors anymore and they gave reasons. The reasons I got from people who just sent me e-mails was they don't want to support Obama's socialism. They don't want to support the notion of government running the car companies, and they don't want to patronize companies that have been bailed out. People are coming up with this on their own. I don't know what the percentage is, but I urged no boycott of GM. General Motors is a sponsor here. (interruption) I bought a General Motors -- That's right! I bought a new Suburban last week.

If you read the media stories they connect his statement about wanting Obama to fail to GM wanting to fail. Their logic was since the government owns 60% of GM, Limbaugh must want them to fail too, as they are now Obama's company. Limbaugh never said he wanted Obama to fail, he said he wanted his policies to fail.

This is why newspapers in this country are going belly up left and right. They don't try and report the news now, they try and create the news, and they often do it with twisted logic and half truths. 20 years ago they could pull that off. But in the age of the internet and alternative medias it is too easy to fact check them. Significant numbers of readers don't believe them, and they're going belly up.

The guy who talks AT Americans from the Golden Microphone 3 hours every day, 250 days a year, whines like a beeotch when he's confronted with the same scrutiny.

When Limp-dick Limbaugh was caught with his pants down, illegally buying prescription drugs (actually he sent his African American house maid out to buy them for him) after claiming on-air that the whole thing was trumped up, he ran and hid until the dust settled while letting his proxies take the publics riducule to ground.

Limbaugh is a coward, Dip. He loves to dish it out but can't take it even a little bit. I find nothing in him worthy of respect. His conservative credentials went down the drain when he supported the unnecessary Bush war in Iraq and massive budget deficits, as far as I'm concerned.

In constantly defending him you tarnish your own image.

Like I said, GM puts a kickazz product forth, people/buyers will be saying, "Rush who?" when it's time to sign. F Rush and his "context quotes", he just got two months worth from his "out of context quotes" of the Supreme Court nominee.

Reeks of a phony to me.

Yeah, whatever, I'm wrong. No doubt an ATT guy should really be able to turn GM around, and a 31 year old recent Yale grad is just the guy to dismantle one of the industrial giants of our age............yep, all is well, B.O. has it handled. 03-phew

Just a picture of the 2012 GM Envoy Hybrid...the car you and party comrades will be driving to your state appointed euthanasia appointment, because you are costing Obama-Care too much money.

In order to start it you have to blame Americas problems on George W Bush into an audio--ignition system.

God bless chairman Obama! God bless this gift to mankind!

Just thinking about it, I don't know much about cars either, so maybe I am qualified. In fact, using the ignorance standard as a good place to start, there are probably a lot of things I could run. Hell, I can see Kellogg's from my front porch, I think I can run Kellogg's. And, I have driven by many GM plants, so I might be able to run GM. Ah.......a new era of incompetent boobery is upon us,and I am darn frightened to live in an era of mediocriity.

Our new leader:

Does the chairman of McDonalds know anything about making a burger? Does the chairman of Bronson know anything about open heart surgery? Has the chairman of Motel 6 ever even set foot in a Motel 6? Does the chairman of Dollar Tree shop at Dollar Tree? These are all things I doubt.

This is why we are so lucky to have the dipstick on our board - he's done it all, knows it all - and can back it up with Limbaugh quotes, cartoons, and selected pix.

WAIT, chippy, I'll save you the trouble: "There you go again, Hoople (unless you want to go back to your hilarious Sgt. Schultz reference), attacking the messenger."

My dad, who came from first generation Norwegian-Minnesota farm people and was a WMU prof for 27 years, would say "You don't have to be a cow to know milk."

I tend to stay on point Phil. It's not like I just pulled this out of my a$$. It's a topic of discussion on every business network and site out there.

You may be right. GM may be building a great product. GM's problem isn't their product. It's an image problem. The average car buyer isn't reading J.D. Powers. They're hearing/reading "GM hires ATT exec as Chairman." Right or wrong, you and I both know how the average consumer perceives that. Negatives in the market place are hard to overcome.

So DB, in your eyes GM has no perception problem? It's just a matter of putting a kick azz product on the street?

Many of their competitors have kick azz products on the street and have had for awhile. Furthermore they're companies that in the consumers eyes appear stable. They're companies who in the consumers eyes are getting it done without taxpayer bailouts. Most important of all, in the consumers eyes, those competitors have a superior product.

How do you instill confidense in your company in the eyes of the public, and convince a consumer that your product is now on par or better, when you're shutting down plants, cutting back brain power (engineers, execs, etc.), and eliminating servicable locations.

Their only hope in convincing people is a budget busting ad campaign. Try convincing B.O. that you need to spend gazillions on advertising. He'd be asking, "Yeah, but what's in it for the UAW?"
