this is what I think happened the last 8 years politically in this country, first you have to remember that the Left(in the DNC, media and Western European Nations) are all members of the same secular cult(Humanism through the State as god, courts are god, etc).
1) we had the "Holy Crap" moment that was 9/11 in this nation, country came together(except for the far-left(and right) kooks like Rev. Wright). Bush led very well, had enormous approval Ratings and basically was able to draw the line in the sand. Everyone's immediate reaction(and I mean Liberals in the Medai and DNC as well as those in Power) was that we needed to go ahead and finish "Regime Change" in Iraq, cited Saddam's terrorist ties and ambtions, etc.
2002, was the first off-year Election in decades in which the Party in the Whitehouse Gained Seats(and several). That was a huge deal, this is where the "Permanent GOP majority" stuff started being talked about.
basically, Bush was in position to become one of the most popular Presidents of all time with one huge "IF", which was "if" the opposition party(and the media) didn't Politicize, lie, mislead, omit, etc....on the National Security issue for their gain.
2) from that realization on, any sense of honor, decency, Patriotism from the Democrats/Left/MSM alliance was gone Publicly(minus the Joe Liebermans and Zell Millers). They simply could not allow Bush to be hugely popular and he and the GOP be who 'saved the country' from these barbarian fruitcakes.
To be decent Americans, would've meant they would've lost the courts(their god) for generations, they would've been out of power long term and "Real Change" would've actually had a chance to come to USA politically.
So the Dems/MSM lied, spun, bitched, whined, thwarted, politicized, you name it. anything Bush did, particularly Iraq because of the violence there and completely dumbed down America.
Bush had to prioritize, obviously National Security was at the top of the list. From that point he had to whore himself out to congress, to continue to get there support to fight the war abroad and at home and as his poll numbers gradually shrunk, lies set in to publics knowledge, it got worse and worse. and is the root of widespread BDS in this country.
Which has led to President Obama, Speaker Pelosi and Senate Leader Harry Reid, all brought to power by in large thanks to the MSM machine and the Dems having no honor and only strategy was to oppose and Demonize Bush. Now that they are in power, I suspect they want be near as crazy on Foreign Policy as their recent rhetoric(I was 100% sure of this with Hilary, less so with Obama because of his past). They want the chance to make Obama out to be FDR II, a Presidential War Hero and then use the moral equivalent of war and Keynsian economics for a "new New Deal", and hopefuly a Democrat Permanent Majority to last decades. Which would seal the deal on the Courts being full of Liberals.
GOP isn't going to ever make any real political gains and make real lasting changes to our Govt. without coming up with some answer to the MSM and dumbed down Americans. Western Europe, Democrats and Left in this country and the MSM are all members of the same Pagan cult, just witness their immediate negative and hostile irrational hatred of Sarah Palin that is still going on.
When the Dems started Filibustering Judge nominees for the first time in our history basically, it was a telling moment. That is everything to them and their special interest groups.
