I used to see Hemphill in the YMCA all of the time. I recall that he committed to BU pretty early on in his recruitment, so I don't think UNCW was involved, but I'd love to see him land here. I think he'd fit nicely as a stretch 4; a solid replacement for Boggs.

My uninformed assessment of those 5:

Gantt - 6'8 220 - with big time offers out of HS, but may be looking for an opportunity to play (limited minutes of Providence and recruited over). From Fayetteville, AAU Team Felton
Davis - 6-6 2G/SF from Kansas City, Missouri and played at Grandview HS and then at Link Prep. Originally committed to Jacksonville and played there for 2 years. ASUN Conference all-freshman team and averaged 10, 4 and 3, missed season due to injury...averaged 32 minutes per game and started every game in 20-21 shooting 5% from the field and averaged 11 points, 4 rebounds per game
Holden - 6'5, 200 - enamored with P5 and is looking for a winning program.
Hemphill - 6'9 230 - starter minutes await him and I think he'd be great in the system. Good shooter but also can finish down low. From Raleigh
Diabate - 6'9 225 - Interesting person, speaks 5 languages, but I don't know much about him. Cross country move makes me question likelihood
Roberts - Transferred from Kent St. to St. Bona for the 2020-21 season but left the team after 3 games due to personal reasons. "The 6-foot-4 guard played his first two seasons of collegiate basketball at Kent State, appearing in 61 games including 21 starts. This past season, he took over a starting role with the Golden Flashes, averaging 12.7 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.4 assists while shooting better than 44 percent from the floor and nearly 37 percent from distance (49-134)." With the portal being what it is this season, I'd caution us before labeling him as someone with red flags. This year was so unique and the college experience was non-existent for these guys. Had to be hard on a transfer into a new program.

Gantt and Hemphill stand out because of their ties to NC. I think Hemphill would be great in Siddle's system and would contribute/start from day 1. Not sure if either are realistic, but I think we'd take both and I'd feel a lot better about next year.

Regarding size, Diabate is the other post that we've shown interest in. I don't know his game, but he seems more like a role player. I may be completely off on that though.

For the guards, not sure if we're targeting 1 or 2 transfers, but Davis and Roberts both have skill and experience. Cam Holden seems like the biggest/most unlikely swing.

Brian Mull also laughed at the panic from UNCW fans about the transfer portal. There will be a lot of movement this year and programs at all levels are being impacted.

Roberts scares me, story looks all too similar to Steere. I do like how you knew what was coming, but anyone who transfers more than twice is a red flag IMO. I'd say the same on the other side for people looking at Joe P. As someone who scans resumes often, "Job hoppers" go to the back of the pile. If i was a coach, I'd look at it the same way. Just my opinion
