What are the prospects for Scott Meredith? He was 18-31 in the game. All I've seen is 2 minute youtube clip, so it's hard to tell what type of defense he was facing, but he was being guarded a little closer on the last six shots.

As far as I can tell, he doesn't have any offers.

Doesn't appear to...5'11" combo guard. Maybe he walks on somewhere?

Just watched it again, and the first 5 were against a zone, a few were in transition, and he was pushed out beyond the arc on the last 4-5 shots. The linked article is pretty good. He sounds like a good kid.

How do you think our 4 Transfers will do next year? That's 4 Freshman and 4 transfers all looking for playing time.

His mother works at WFU. I've heard that walking on there is an option, but it wasn't from someone I consider reliable.

Same high school as Benny Moss.

Yep. I imagine Coach Keatts will want to settle into a rotation of no more than 8 or 9 guys in Year 2. We'll have no shortage of talent so some guys just won't see the floor.

It's a little too early for my brain to allow myself to think about next year's lineup. As soon as baseball season ends it'll be fun to discuss lineups and rotations. But for now I'm enjoying the current product too much to think about it much.

I suspect the most under-reported factor in this year's team's success is those transfers. We seriously have to have the most talented scout team in the CAA.

I was thinking the same thing about the no shortage of talent. It's just fun to speculate on a few off days.

Good problem to have! And if you are winning, kids tend to be a bit more cooperative!

There is a reason they are transfers.Out of four I would say you would be lucky if two work out to be good players. No disrespect meant to them but it is just the way it works.

RE: Recruit Updates - SEA33HAWK - 02-17-2015 02:10 PM

Keatts wants a solid 10 man. The 5 starters and a player coming in for each with no dropoff on the court. Without subbing all five at one time.

This is the best scout team I have ever seen at the Dub. Don't know if all four will pan out, but I have to believe more than one will. So far, we are having trouble scheduling home games with the teams that know about them.

"So far, we are having trouble scheduling home games with the teams that know about them."

I'm sure that a lot know about the transfers but I am quite sure that even more have seen what coach has done with this team this season. Either way it is going to be tough getting folks into Trask - just like the old days.

You'd be right if all we're talking about are generalities here. But Haywood and Ingram will be players for sure. Why? Because they've done so already:

http://portcitydaily.com/2014/07/07/sports-first-recruiting-class-for-new-uncw-hoops-coach-comes-into-focus/

Quote:Haywood, a 6-4, 185-pound scorer, averaged 16.6 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists for the Dolphins in 2013-14, shooting 50.9 percent overall and 41.3 percent from three-point range. He earned Second-Team All-Atlantic Sun honors after reaching double figures 23 times in 26 appearances last season.
Quote:Ingram, a 6-0, 170-pound guard, played two seasons at Charlotte after graduating from Chapel Hill School. He made 10 starts in 28 games for the 49ers and recorded 10 double-figure games, including a 20-point effort against Georgia Tech on Dec. 29, 2013. Ingram averaged 8.1 points and ranked third in Conference USA in 3-point percentage with a 44.1 clip.

Past performance is a good indicator of future success. And that's "just the way it works."

RE: Recruit Updates - herdfifteen - 02-17-2015 04:22 PM

Good information, thanks It does appear our recruits on paper are more talented as a group than those sitting out. The numbers on a couple of the transfers are not that impressive, though I do trust Keatts judgment on who can help us. While I realize it is apples to oranges, is there someone with knowledge of both groups willing to compare them?

RE: Recruit Updates - 82hawk - 02-17-2015 04:53 PM

I'm willing to give Keatts the benefit of the doubt. If there is one thing I have confidence in, it's his ability to recognize and develop talent. With all his connections, the transfers and recruits are the ones he CHOSE. Don't forget, his only real choice we get to see in action is Talley. I'd say he picked the right guy.

RE: Recruit Updates - SEA33HAWK - 02-17-2015 05:59 PM

Well, afterall, he was listed asv the #1 recruiter in D-1.
