Sad The fight is over
Last night, my wife of 23 years lost her battle with cancer.
She had been diagnosed with Stage 3b back in 2013.
We were told that there was only a 32% chance of beating it.
Her sister and I both assured her she would be part of that 32%.

There were some missteps, but she preservered.
She fought a ferocious fight, but cancer reared its head again back in 2022/23.
The placement of it this time greatly limited her choice in treatment. They could not operate...and the choice was made to treat her with Keytruda.
Initially she did well, but the Keytruda battered her already bad kidneys.
Last year she also fell and broke her hip.

That was the beginning of the end.
She needed a tap placed into her kidney in her back...as one kidney was not disposing of its urine. The needle in that kidney was accidentally pulled out a couple of times, and had to be reinserted, prompting several hospital stays.
She went fast, after a series of falls outside and at home.
I am immensely proud of the fight she displayed. She coulda folded at the start and gave up...she prayed for a bit more time for her younger grandchildren to get to see and know her.
She was given that time and a bit more...as she also got to witness the birth of a great-niece.
I'm heartbroken right now...I have no idea if I can hold this all together (our two eldest grandchildren live with us)...but I'm sure gonna try. She saved my life...and I owe it to be there for her two sons, and our grandchildren
Prayers requested for our family please.

RE: The fight is over
I will certainly pray for you and your family.

My wife was diagnosed with breast cancer this time last year so I have some first hand experience with what you have been going through. I know how hard it is to see someone you love have to deal with the endless doctor appointments, the never ending tests, scans and blood draws, the chemotherapy treatments, the stays in ICU and the ever present fear and uncertainty of what the future might bring and the whole time you yourself feel helpless. My wife told me that it was even harder for her when her hair started to fall out due to the chemo treatments because at that point everyone knew that something was wrong with her. She couldn't pretend to be healthy to the outside world anymore. Like your wife, she always presented a strong example for the kids and grand kids.

She is doing better now and her recent appointments show her cancer is gone. She has, however, developed diabetes from the Keytruda she was taking but that is a much easier dragon to fight than cancer. I dearly wish that your wife had had the same result.

We don't don't know why bad things happen. You do know that God is good and He loves you. Don't give up what you do know for what you don't know.

Your wife sounds like a remarkable woman. Stay strong.

I am so sorry for your loss and grief. I also lost my wife to cancer in February, 2022. We were married for 22 1/2 years and had two children together who are now in their early 20s. She fought cancer for 2 1/2 years and finally succumbed in our home under hospice care. I can honestly tell you that where I am today is not where I was two years ago. It gets easier moving forward but it takes time. Sometimes, you feel yourself stuck or going backwards. That's normal. There's not a manual or a linear, sequential process for grief. Everyone experiences it uniquely their own. I couldn't have gotten through it without my faith, discipleship and my church family. I will pray for you and your family. Please know the Lord knows your pain - Jesus felt it in gethsemane and all the way to the cross - and he is near. I know you can't process it right now but God has a plan for all things - even when it makes zero sense. Rely on him. Don't give up. He will fill your void and give you purpose. Right now, take each day moment to moment, remember all the wonderful memories of your wife and grieve the loss. Remember, your wife's suffering is over and she is now absent the body, in the presence of the Lord. She is free from pain and full of joy and seeing things that we cannot begin to imagine. Godspeed good brother.

EarthBound ....... Condolences to you; I'm sorry for your loss.

From your description she really did fight the good fight.

There are three cancer survivors in my immediate family.
My Wife - Breast Cancer.
My youngest Daughter - Appendiceal Cancer.
Me - Bladder Cancer.
A friend was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer; they supposedly caught it early & is undergoing treatment.

I know it's tough. I'll be praying for you.
