Gillion is gone

I don’t know what his plans are.

I’d expect most Florida guys to be gone.

RE: Gillion is gone
If the rumors are true, looks like he is moving to be Associate head coach at Long Island.

https://hoopdirt.com/report-chicago-stat...oin%20LIU.

Major step down, even if the pay is better. Unless he doesn’t like being a head coach, or simply wanted the fastest way out of Chicago State.

RE: Gillion is gone
I figured that he was good enough to make a move.

I didn’t think it would be this year though. I truly thought he’d be here one more season.

At least he’s leaving things a lot better than he found them.

Players the Cougars may be able to retain-

Cam Jernigan improved and developed a lot last season. He’s from the immediate area.

Raiford is already a Juco transfer and is from Chicago. He had some experience and is decent. He may not be a starter but is a solid bench player.

Tehshaundre Cole didn’t play a lot of the season, but was valuable when he did. Perhaps he could be back.

Ked Green could elect to stay, but I doubt it.

Nobel Crawford is a possibility, but unlikely.

I’d guess everyone else will be gone. But in this day and age, even having 3 or 4 guys back after a coaching change is normal. So the Cougars may not be any worse off than the average program from Gillion leaving.

If we get a competent coach signed up quickly so that he can rebuild, he has a basketball hotbed to recruit in. Even third tier players from Chicago are going to be pretty good. Plus there is the transfer (gag) portal.

Of course, all this will impact where we fall in the NEC hierarchy. Rats! I had wanted to win the whole thing the first year.

It sounds a lot like he is being set up for a future head coaching job, but if it makes him the second-highest paid coach in the conference, minus the headaches, why not?

The Cougars next coach could already be on staff. Scott Spinelli would be a good hire I believe. He may be able to keep some of the players already at CSU. He has been an assistant all over, has been an acting head coach, knows the game, and knows the program. Also importantly, he knows the North East as that’s his home turf.

Just depends on what direction they want to go.

We won't lack for people wanting a shot at the job.
