One of our own, Neal Shipley, is on the verge of making the cut at Augusta. He's -1 with nine holes to play. If he doesn't stumble, he'll be above the cutline.

Am I the only one that when I see Masters that song runs through my head?

Amen Corner will do that to you, especially as a Masters rookie.

Just made a long birdie on 13 to go to +2 which is just inside cut. Another birdie would help for some cushion.

I always get a kick out of the Chris Vernon show doing his Masters updates. Part 2 is really funny.

Might as well have put his name as the thread title just to make sure he doesn't make the cut

RE: Masters
Shipley finishes at +3 on a difficult day which is just inside current cut line. I would expect him to be comfortably in as cut will definitely go to at least +4 and could go to +5 fairly easily with the final players just teeing off. If I had to guess he will be in top 35 by end of the day.

It is quite likely that he is only amateur to makes the cut as their is really only one other that has a chance. He is at +3 but only 4 holes into this round.

RE: Masters
Looks like cut will be +5 with a very outside chance at +6. Looks like Shipley will be tied for about 34th and will be only amateur to make the cut therefore guaranteeing him to be low amateur.

Looking like he may be paired Biharis last weeks winner.

RE: Masters
That means he will be in Butler cabin on Sunday with the Masters champion.
Unless he plays the rounds of his life and he is the Masters champion as well as the Low amateur.

Is it possible to dream any more emphatic JMU sports performances in this school year? The Dukes are on a major heater. 04-rock

Yeah- I'm kinda curious which college is going to get the upper hand on his exposure. The one that he played for 4 years (and graduated from), or the one Covid year exemption at a football factory with unlimited NIL money?

3* years w/ a QFin degree. That ain't no joke.

I don't follow JMU Nation on Facebook but my wife said there were posts saying he wanted to stay at JMU but couldn't get into the finance grad program bc he graduated in 3 years (not due to grades). Seems crazy on JMU's part but this has come up a couple times recently with other athletes saying they couldn't stay at JMU.

RE: Masters
Thanks for the correction- it makes it even more impressive that he graduated in 3 years and played collegiate golf the entire time. Our media team should be bombarding the network emphasizing he is a JMU grad.

How magical can it get?
Shipley will be in Butler Cabin with the champ tomorrow and he will play a round of golf with Eldrick Woods.

There will be tons of coverage on that pairing and Shipley can get some more screen time while playing in front of a massive Tiger crowd.
It is something he can tell his kids and grandkids. Better yet, if he scores better than Tiger he can claim he beat him head to head on Sunday at the Masters.
