basketball schedule 24-25
Does anyone know where we stand on next year's basketball schedule? I know some teams off this years will be around, but was hoping we up the ante some as we should have a better team next year than this year.

I believe we have an away game at Drake. I’m not sure if any of the others were home & home deals last year.

I believe Bradley was as well. So I believe we have MTSU and Arkansas St at home, and Bradley/Drake on the road so far.

End of 2023-24 Net rankings for each school (which admittedly, with the portal, means nothing going into a new season):

UAB - 104
Illinois State - 178
Kansas State - 70
Liberty - 141
McNeese State - 56
George Washington - 192

We really need those other two TBD teams to be legit. While there aren't any terrible teams in that field, there aren't any great ones either.

Agreed, none of those teams would be marquee wins as it looks right now (maybe Kansas St), but there aren’t really any resume killers either. I trust AK will continue to build this schedule to get us in contention (or at least the opportunity to contend) for an at-large.

I believe in the coaching staff, but they need to do everything humanly possible to get this team a strong schedule. This year was a step in the right direction, please don't go backwards.

We are really overstating our struggles in these tournaments based on stuff that happened years ago now.

We split two P5 games last year, and could have won both.
The year before we beat USF and Georgia and won the Sunshine Slam.
The year before that we lost by 2 to San Francisco in the final in Vegas.
Prior to Covid we won some crappy tournament over an undefeated Duquense team.

Before that year, we were awful in the preseason tournaments. I know 2018 feels like yesterday, but we are a long ways from that now.

I think my gripe about the MTEs is that we typically play in a safe field.

I don’t think anybody foresaw the run San Fran would make after beating us and then Clemson also being an elite 8 team.

There’s rarely been a participant where if we’d beaten them, somebody would’ve said that’s an impressive win.

I wouldn’t even say it was a step in the right direction, I’d say it was pretty damn good. If I remember correctly, it was a Top 50 OOC schedule in terms of NET. If we have a schedule like that this year, and can win the Clemson/McNeese/Bradley type games (I accepted losing those last year with such a new team, though they obviously hurt when they happened), and not trip up on potential landmines, that’s the recipe for an at-large.

I mean, I don’t think Maui is knocking down our door in a rush to invite us. We can only play in the tourneys that will accept us. If we can get Q2 opportunities on a neutral floor, that’s a pretty decent setup for us atm. We have to have sustained success to get to the Mauis, B4A, etc.
