Mentions opportunities with private equity, naming rights, conference-wide NIL and “maverick postseason models.”

3. maverick post season models sounds like a MWC/AAC play in for the football playoffs, a G5 football playoffs, or at best trying to take conference tournaments to large cities and getting them to cover some of the cost......the AAC mens BB tournament in The Orleans Arena in Beautiful Las Vegas, Nevada has a ring to it
I don't like the idea of a play-in. Due to ranking bias, we're already going to have the longest path to a championship in the 12-team format. Now, on top of a CCG, our best team also has to win a play-in before jumping into a 12 vs. 5 away game to begin a potential 4-game playoff slate? That's 5 postseason games to The BIG/SEC champ's 3.

I don't know how realistic either are, but they would both be nice adds. I think in order for VCU to leave the A10, we'd probably need to add another regional rival like Rchmond or the A10 will need to lose some of their other top teams like SLU and Dayton. Adding St Joes with VCU would be nice because it would help Temple out.
VCU, Dayton, SLU are the most likely and maybe Geroge Washington. Those schools are major metro areas with decent geography, solid support and minus SLU have a steong hiistory of success.
Also this isn't even close to the C7/FB split of the old big east. We would have four total non-football teams, two football only schools and 12 all sports members. Even adding AFA as football only (unlikely) still gives us 4/3/12 no where the 50/50 deadlock the Big East had. Two of the four basketball schools are likely covered by the extra pay outs from Navy and Army being football only, so add on pay outs would be less than 6m a year total. With a high chance of them paying for themselves in credits.
Pernitti has the options to be aggressive.
I like the 18-18 (Football - Basketball) approach to membership.
The best basketball option IMHO is VCU this sets up for the latter football adds and dependent on how that works out to get to 18.
Remember he can have a lot of conversations privately because of schools that reached out to the AAC before avoiding interference claims.
The most strategic schools to speak with first are AFA and App State.
AFA has to be interested due to academy football and East Coast national exposure. They just need to bring one of CSU, BSU, UNLV, Nevada, or Wyoming. They've reached out before, but CSU got cold feet. Things change. Alumni are not going to like seeing academy football on an annual basis go away. Which has been suggested. It decreases East Coast exposure for them. The Pac 2/MWC merger is never going to bring the exposure. The CW deal for the PAC 2 has been reported to be paltry. Eastern time zone exposure cannot be underestimated for a national institution. They can park their other sports elsewhere if they want football only. Pernitti would have to find a western basketball/baseball partner if the other western school needed one.
App State brings football quality in the 9th most populist state. Decent baseball and basketball. They could combine with ECU and Charlotte in a state against Duke and Wake in football if UNC and NCSU leave the ACC for non natural geographic conferences. That's a strong move in a strategic market on the table. I like JMU to pair with App State if VCU were to move shoring up Virginia combining a market of 21 million in NC/Virginia. Of course he could look at others, but App State is a strategic trifecta in a state that competition will weaken in the future in my view because of the P2.
He has options
clt says appy doesn't have the academics for the AAC
appy's wouldn't be capable of reading the application
