You may not see the blood in the water, but you can be assured Yappy smells it all the way in Texas.

Sure, you are entitled to your opinion just like I am entitled to mine. I am one of the few who thinks the ACC will have the upper hand over the B12.

But what does the ACC have to do with the OP and the subject? Does Yormark's tenure somehow depend on the ACC?

Seems to me some people are just obsessed with the ACC.

Yorkmark's resume could be greatly enhanced by carving off some bits of the ACC now that he has already eaten from the corpse of the PAC. Establishing the Big XII as the hands down #3 conference, or the only power conference outside the P2, could indeed affect how long his tenure in Irving is and where he might land next.

*could*

I very much doubt it. Even if the ACC goes down, it’s not going to be because of him, and I don’t know how that would greatly enhance his resume. It’s just not a very relevant issue for the subject of the thread.

Again, it looks to me like people just want to make everything about the ACC.

There are only 2 conferences in what is now clearly the M2, and they are pretty much equals in most respects, with the possible exception of academics. So it's hard to discuss the future trajectory of one of them without considering the other.

I could easily see Yormark elevating his status in college athletics without going to either of the P2 conferences. I could imagine him as the Commissioner of a merged 32 team conference that is truly nationwide and considered part of a Tier One in the revenue sports, and staying there until he retires. I'm not predicting that, but neither am I ruling it out.

If Florida State and Clemson go to the SEC, matching the B1G at 18 members, this could be your 32 team P3 conference.

West: Arizona, Arizona St, BYU, Cal, Colorado, San Diego St, Stanford, Utah
Southwest: Baylor, Houston, Kansas, Kansas St, Oklahoma St, SMU, TCU, Texas Tech
Northeast: BC, Cincinnati, Iowa State, Louisville, Pitt, Syracuse, UCF, West Virginia
Atlantic: Duke, Georgia Tech, Miami, NC State, UNC, Virginia, Va Tech, Wake Forest

EDIT: Or, if Cal and Stanford balk at rubbing shoulders with SDSU, move SMU to the West, Iowa State to the Southwest, and replace them in the Northeast with USF to reunite them with UCF and give that division an annual trip to Florida in their round robin.

I think what drives him is competition. He doesn't need a higher paying job necessarily. He needs to compete. As long as the industry is still consolidating, he'll have plenty to chew on.

Some recent Big 10 upheaval aside, most conference commissioners hang around awhile. It's a nice gig.

Roy Kramer - 11 years
Mike Slive - 13 years
Greg Sankey - 9 years and counting
Wayne Duke - 19 years
Jim Delany - 31 years
Larry Scott - 12 years
John Swofford - 24 years
Bob Bowlsby - 10 years
Mike Aresco - 12 years
Mike Tranghese - 19 years
Dave Gavitt - 11 years

However, the Big 12 has had some short-tenured commissioners (Steve Hatchell, Dan Beebe).

bolded - just long enough to see the first year of the CFP...

They might get him to stay. But with some of the - let's be fair - miracles, that he's been involved in, in righting the ship, when it could have been a BigEast-like disaster, leads me to think he's likely thinking that he's due a significant pay raise. And I'm not sure the current Big12 is in a position to pay what he is likely to get elsewhere.

And if we don't think so, I'll just point to the recent example of Warren.

Yes, the circumstances were right. But even if that didn't become available, I have no doubt that other options would have as well...
