Men’s 1-seed facing chalk
Since 85, how many 1-seeds got to the Final Four by facing chalk in the region?

If you mean beating the 16/8/4/2 seeds in their region:

85 Georgetown
93 UNC
97 Kentucky
98 UNC
00 Michigan St
02 Maryland
02 Kansas
09 UNC
14 Arizona
15 Wisconsin
17 UNC

I may have missed one or a few as I just did a quick scan

8-9s are nearly equals. As are 4-5s. And 2-3s.

All Final Four 1 seeds go 16 then 8-9. Most then go through 4-2, 4-3, 5-2 or 5-3. All of these paths are nearly equally difficult. In fact, based on match ups, some 5-3, 4-3 and 5-2 routes are more difficult for certain 1 seeds than 4-2.

Occasionally, a 1-seed will get a 12-13 seed in the Sweet 16 and or a 14-11-6-7 seed in the Elite 8. But not too often.

I mean they technically might be nearly equal, but the top seeds winning every game is what "chalk" is. So it would only be a 1 seed facing 16, 8, 4, 2 on the way to the final 4 that fits the definition.
