Funny, but when I saw this thread I immediately thought what the heck did Ike do now? BB coach to me is baseball, not Mens Basketball (MBB).

RE: JMU BB Coach
Like it or not, we are all in a much different mid-major world, regardless of the sport. Success, now, virtually assures major losses from year to another, and the most successful programs will be ones who adapt to putting together the best possible team, year to year, on what is now a “one and done” model of success.
A successful coach will know how to recruit high school players who have the ability, with one year of seasoning and improvement, to move into starting positions at the next level and use the portal to shore up any holes that inevitably come about. This also puts a premium on hiring the best possible coaching staff at all levels who can improve to become attractive to the next job.
Yes, that makes us a developmental league for the P-schools, but if we embrace that reality with the right strategies, and think strategically about this new one and done environment, success will come, and I think fans will support this new reality.

Perhaps, but Vandy was paying their last HC $3.1 mil, which is a big jump from the $650k JMU was paying Coach By. Plus, Nashville is a great city and now he’ll be coaching in the SEC. His roots and recruiting chops are a good match. I see no reason to wait for something better to come along.

So what’s up with the exodus at App??? Just saw Jordan Marsh joined the party.
Lots of cash being thrown around.

I’m assuming the App NIL is more reserved for football?

Abson and Spillers were both offered deals but apparently not enough. One report says Wake is interested in Spillers.

Seems good to me. He kept up the quality at Morehead just as the transfer portal started making it tough for smaller schools to maintain talent.

20+ wins and OVC champ after losing his best starter - dude seems like a total winner
will be hard to see him go in four years!

Always won with very little resources at Morehead. He was making $260K.

Home run in my opinion. Took him a little time at Morehead, but then the past four years all he's done is win including two trips to the dance. Hopefully he can hit the ground running and avoid having any down years in Harrisonburg, but even if we have a down year or two I fully expect him to be successful here.

Careful, there are a few on here that get salty if you bring up brand new head coaches taking a couple years to get their feet under them.

Ah, but he’s not a “brand new HC”….he’s been a HC for several years now, winning 20+ games four years in a row at Morehead (a school
record). Plus he’s taken MSU to 2 NCAATs, one NIT (with a win over Clemson) in the past 4 years. That’s good stuff.

He's done better in the NCAAs the last four years than his old boss from KY!
