Student Athletics Fees
Student Athletics Fee News

UNT intercollegiate Athletics Fee is $16.25 per hour This fee is assessed in proportion to the number of semester credit hours for which a student registers to cover the cost of UNT athletics programs. It is capped at 15 hours. 15x16.25=$243.75 per student.

This is going up to $17.85, according to a Feb 27 announcement, a nearly 10% increase, which is expected to bring in $2.7 million additional collection (10% or more increase would've required another student vote). The current UNT budget is $48 million, so now it will exceed $50 million, which the AD says will be needed for UNT to compete in the American Conference. His goal is to be within the top third of that conference's spending. Per the same article (Denton Record-Chronicle Feb 27, 2024),

Tarleton State is at $35/ hour

Texas State is at $22

Sam Houston is at $20, and

UTSA is at $20

On the UTSA website is the following.

UTSA Athletics Fee (SATH)
A charge of $20 per semester credit hour with a maximum of $240 per semester is assessed all students to provide funding for UTSA athletic programs. 20x12=240 per student per semester.

Meanwhile, in Arlington, where the entire concept of student athletics fee originated under former AD Pete Carlon, the fee lags significantly below other peer or near-peer institutions. The fee at UTA could be doubled and would still be less than at all these other schools.

The UTA Intercollegiate Athletics Fee is $8.50 per credit hour/$115 maximum.
