What's going to happen? Everybody is dropping basketball and football?

The change was made to allow players to transfer without penalty. You know, like coaches have always done. And like every other American college student has done forever.

EXCEPT American athletes. Gee, I wonder why? Not allowing free transfers is actually against anti-trust legislation. Schools just have to adjust.

First thing that has to change is to go back to the 4 year window (I believe we just have one final season to go through before everyone has exhausted the Covid year).

If everyone just has four years, there will be less transfers and less guys willing to transfer to a P5 school and sit on the bench for one of your four seasons.

G/F Barry Dunning Jr. is in the portal from UAB.

2022 Alabama HS Player of the Year, four-star prospect. No concept of "defense" and so played less than sparingly this year (he did score 18 points, total for the season).

Maybe someone else can unlock the potential.

Igor is in the Portal also

Yes. The new reality is that your coach needs to work hard at keeping his players every year. So chances of anyone staying in one place for 4 years is remote.

The answer to all of this in the long term is unionization and collective bargaining of rules that won’t be struck down in the courts.

That's just not happening in a G5 league, imo. At least no time soon as $$ now trumps loyalty. Charlotte has players leaving for $300k. That's bench player money for a P5 but G5s have to be much more cautious due to budget constraints. We'll have to get used to having a new team every season.

G5’s are not all alike concerning NIL resources.

I agree. However, no G5 can compete against a top P5. Come to think of it, it's not all related to the NIL, it's the unlimited transfers that make rooting for G5 harder and harder. I know it's the way of land now so complaining won't do any good. I can see G5 fans giving up and putting money elsewhere when they know what they give won't make any difference.

Kenny Pohto from WSU is entering the portal. Love the kid, but imo, Paul Mills system just didn't fit what Kenny perceived his skill set to be.

I disagree. It is possible to compete for basketball, at least to date. NIL funding is not tied to the media deal. It is based on the largesse of wealthy fans and the number of ordinary fans willing and able to depart with small sums.

Concerning giving up, I cannot speak for other Tiger fans but I have tripled my meager NIL contributions compared to last year and intend to drip more money into the well before the year expires.

I like the transfer portal because of its effectiveness. 60% of the time, it works every time.

By "American," I meant U.S., not our conference.

So... for ECU that is now:

Brandon Johnson
Kalib LaCount
Quentin Diboundje
Jaden Walker
Ben Bayela

Still thinking we're going to see several more guys hit the portal.

Total rebuild incoming.
