ODU football gets its’ first commit in QB Ryan Huff. Ryan plays at Pensacola Catholic in Pensacola, Florida. He’s 6’4, 215 and has offers from UCF, Liberty, NMSU, Ole Miss, CMU, Toledo and Samford.

Not celebrating yet until this coaching staff can show more reliability with closing the deal on recruits.

Offer list is solid, but, Ole Miss oil money could be calling later on (and we wont be able to match that).

Chance to play by the bay. What a nice commitment, He looks good in Hudson Blue. Was getting some big schools looks.

Ole Miss has 10 QBs on the roster and UCF has 8.

2023: Led Pensacola Catholic to an 11-3 record and the regional finals of Florida’s 2S playoffs after transferring in from Kentucky’s Bowling Green Greenwood. Completed 132 of 232 passes (56.5%) for 2,018 yards with 14 TD and 6 INT per MaxPreps.

SCOUTING REPORT - QB Hit List
SIZE:
Ryan has excellent size for a 2025 Pro Style QB at 6’3” 195 lbs. He’s a pure pocket passer who sits tall in the backfield, able to oversee the entire field. He throws with an over the top delivery, adding height to his throws.
ACCURACY:
This is a strength to Ryan's game. He shows good patience as he waits for the play to develop. Throws made with good anticipation and timing of his receivers routes.
ARM STRENGTH:
His throws get to his receivers in a hurry, made of high velocity. Able to zip the ball into tight windows of space. Very good range, making throws with full arm extension.
RELEASE:
An over the top delivery. Solid footwork on his dropbacks and set ups.
THROW ON RUN:
An athletic QB who can get to the outside with good mobility and speed. Displays good vision downfield while getting in position with his target.
FOOTWORK:
Good mobility in backfield. Not considered a Dual Threat but can take it in for a short yardage pickup.
POISE:
Continues to work on his craft. With more game experience he'll add to his confidence.
POCKET PRESENCE:
Ryan's most comfortable in the pocket, seeing the entire field.
DECISION MAKING:
An area which he'll add to with high school game experience and reps.
TOUCH:
Nice touch in all areas of the field.

I like the “commitment”. Let’s hope the big NIL money doesn’t swoop in and steal him. Anyone know if he was made an offer with our collective and if perhaps that played a role in his decision?

My only worry is the comment that he is most comfortable in the pocket. We do not need another Hayden Wolff who won't run when the opportunity or need arrises.

Wolff has good mobility. That wasn’t his problem. His problem was all mental.

Wolff stood in the pocket like the Statue of Liberty and never moved. Because of his lack of mobility, he also suffered from fumbl-itis.

Yeah, he was broken. Someone nailed it in to him that he needed to stay in the pocket or hand it off. They worked on his keepers diligently and for whatever reason it never worked. It is what it is now.

He always looked scared to run to me. Some guys just don't like to run even when it is gift wrapped

Wolff never seemed to display that quick twitch, quick burst energy. Seemed like he was always in 3rd gear. Wilson looks similar in the pocket but can pull the ball down and take off when he commits to it.

Yes, he always looked scared to get hit. Zero pocket awareness. Grant has shown the ability to pull the ball and run with it effectively. Automatic upgrade.

We already have a commitment from QB Ryan Huff and that certainly could have changed things, but read an article about QB Jack James who recently committed to Troy. The article said ODU was one of his offers.

Thanks I suspected that was the case. I like Huff's skill set better than James.

Ummmm...his only mobility when touched or almost touched was to the turf. He had very limited foot speed and lateral quickness. Plus because of his height he could not spin or evade rushes well at all.
