NCAA tournament thread
Purdue gets a number one seed despite losing early in their conference tournament. They have a good bracket this year too

MSU and Virginia getting in the tournament is laughable.

It won't help them... They'll do what Purdue always does; get out of the first weekend and then lose in the second.

Conferences with multiple bids...

8 B12, SEC
6 BIG, MWC
5 ACC
4 P12
3 BE
2 AAC, A10, WCC

The MWC with six bids. I dunno about that one.

Think about the B16 next year. 10-12 bids?

Six from the Mountain West is...well...baffling. I know that includes Boise State in the "Play In" game, but still...

There HAS to be a Michigan State clause in the committee handbook. As long as they are over .500 they get in.

RE: NCAA tournament thread
Upsets I like at a glance...

13 Charleston over 4 Alabama - Bama 2-7 against Top 25 and limped to the finish line. Charleston won their last twelve in a row.
12 McNeese over 5 Gonzaga - McNeese is athletic and quick as hell. Zags aren't the typical Mark Few squad.
11 Oregon over 6 South Carolina - Oregon as an 11 seed!
10 Drake over 7 Washington St - Pretty equal metrics and Drake beat Indy St for the MVC chip.

Feel pretty good about 1 UConn, 1 Houston and 1 North Carolina coming out of their regions in the Final Four. The Midwest is a head scratcher. Purdue and Matt Painter? Tennessee and Rick Barnes? Yeesh. Pick either one of those at your own risk.

I was going to b!tch about Michigan State but I see others beat me to it.

So let me b!tch about Michigan State too.

I'm just not buying the annual excuse... Welllllllll, they're a lot better than their record.

The Old Legacy Coach clause. It's what kept getting Syracuse in every year for Boehiem when they didn't deserve it.

Believe me, I'm not a MSU or Tom Izzo apologist. I don't have a dog in the fight but it doesn't bother me they were selected. They ended up with a strong NET SOS, including non-conference, and went .500 in B1G play. Their non-conference NET SOS is 44. Cincinnati's is over 300 as a comp. IMO, their conference record and non-conference schedule got them over the hump.

Pitt, Oklahoma, Indiana, Memphis, Ole Miss and St. John's all opted to skip the NIT. Not sure if others. I wonder if that is going to become more of a thing going forward.

It's a meaningless tournament and the coaches lose precious time to figure out transfer portal scenarios.

OR...

They're just too cool for the NIT.

Yeah, I think if your roster is going to be turned over, why bother? I'm sure some players now look at it as a business decision, too. If you are even considering entering the portal, why risk an injury for an exhibition game?

This is exactly the point and why I think UC is happy to play in it. UC is probably going to have the most roster stability they've had in a long time this offseason. That's a huge deal for this program and a chance to really take a big step forward. Why not get the guys more time playing together in competitive games?

At the end of the day everyone invited should play because quitting sucks. I enjoy watching the NIT tournament when UC is in it. I believe in playing to the end and accepting the tournament you earned.

I do think this season will accelerate the expansion of the NCAA tournament.

Why should they play if they don't want to? Half of our own fans don't even care.

The NIT is an exhibition tor the NCAA to make money filling up air time and the schools to sell concessions.

I think UCOnn will get through but man that’s a tough draw. FAU then Auburn then Iowa State or Illinois. All top ten Kenpom (expect FAU).
